Finally Home composed by Don Wyrtzen

When engulfed by the terror of the tempestuous sea,
Unknown waves before you roll;
At the end of doubt and peril is eternity,
Though fear and conflict seize your soul.

But just think of stepping on shore-And finding it Heaven!
Of touching a hand-And finding it God's!
Of breathing new air-And finding it celestial!
Of waking up in glory-And finding it home!

When surrounded by the blackness of the darkest night,
O how lonely death can be;
At the end of this long tunnel is a shining light,
For death is swallowed up in victory!

But just think of stepping on shore-And finding it Heaven!
Of touching a hand-And finding it God's!
Of breathing new air-And finding it celestial!
Of waking up in glory-And finding it home!

How Great thou Art

I have also heard and sang at funerals -
What a friend we have in Jesus
Jesus Loves Me the Bible tells me so.
Glorified

Pick something simple and familiar that people know and gives hope and comfort.

I am picking the hymns for my funeral. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

So far I am choosing:

A Mighty Fortress Is Our God - 657
Amazing Grace - 744
For Me to Live is Jesus - 742
If Christ Had Not Been Raised From Death - 486
I sincerely hope you don't have a terminal illness, btw. However, letting others know what you'd prefer when the time comes is important too. I hope my own wishes to have an Orthodox funeral are adhered to by anyone I leave behind. One of my dad's cousins recently passed and there was a kerfluffle between his wife and parents because his wife chose to have no music at the funeral whatsoever amongst other things that really hurt the family. If he had had it all planned out beforehand then perhaps all of that could have been avoided.

why are you picking songs for your funeral? you won't be there to see how it works out; funerals are for those still in the flesh, not those in the Spirit (whether they still inhabit flesh bodies or not) - God is the God of the living, not the dead; funerals are for the dead, not the living

I am picking the songs because I want my funeral to be a good one. I want the gospel to be preached and people led to Christ. I want my testimony to live on even after I am gone. I am also picking a scripture reading.

your greatest witness is that witness that comes from you while you live - let God be Savior after you've gone to be with Him; right now focus on living long, running your race in this life, and finishing your course - no matter what plans you make about your funeral, you have no idea if they will be carried out faithfully because you will not be here for your funeral to ensure your intentions will be honored. as you focus on your death, you are not focused on your life...

are you facing the world's (and perhaps your own body's) report about your early death? is this why you are focused on your funeral?

Too many dying without having funeral plans or wills...just look at how it
messes with the family when they love one has died and left no will and
burial arrangements.
As far as anyone know, Prince died without a will and now his family be
fighting over his estate.
I say do it now, finalize things like your funeral, burial insurance and a will
or trust etc.

I have my Mother as a signer on my savings account and I have left instructions for her on how to handle my burial.

Another one that I quite like that maybe not many people have heard is
'You cant keep a good man down' and I just think that would be uplfting (excuse the pun) to sing at a funeral. If you like country music style as well, its not a traditional hymn though.
