Paul agreed with James' practical/spiritual statement:
"For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous." Rom 2:13

And John:
"The one who does what is right is righteous, just as He is righteous. The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work." 1 John 3:7-8

Now lets look at what Paul teaches as our "sanctification".
Its this... 1 Corinthians 1:30.
Paul teaches that Jesus "IS BECOME" the sanctification of the born again.

This means that its COMPLETED.
Its completed by us being IN CHRIST, or as your blurb is stating, as "IN the Holy Spirit".
See that "IN"?
That is not you doing it.

What it means is that we have become this...>"As Christ IS< so are the born again, IN THIS WORLD">

Now you dont like that, because Paul does not give you the credit that you crave.
And im not going to give you credit, for your sanctification, or for your salvation.

See, the bottom line is this. All you post is..>"this is how I DO IT", and then you cut and past how Paul teaches that we are become it, already, by being in Christ.

The born again are "IN Christ", for eternity.
There is no way you can be more in "union" with God and Christ than to be IN THEM BOTH, and they be in you, as "Christ IN YOU the hope of Glory"....And God in you, because you are the "Temple of the Holy Spirit", if you are born again and not just water baptized.

Here is how Jesus explains the current spiritual union regarding all the born again .

John 17:23. """I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in ONE".

See the..that they may be "made perfect"?
This is how we understand what makes us perfect.
Its because the born again have been birthed into the Spirit of God, by the Spirit of God, and now the Born again, are "ONE" with God's Spirit, which is to be "in Christ".

This can never change.
ANd when we understand that this is who we have become, as the new creation, then we are able to rest in the peace this brings to us, as we realize the security we have been given, by becoming ONE with God and IN Christ.

This establishes us as a eternal situation, within God's family.
God put us there by new birth and once you are born again, you are always born again.

Yes, James is explaining what true faith is, which justifies/saves apart from its necessary works (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 4:5), distinguishing it from counterfeit faith which does not obey, and which counterfeit faith does not save/justify.

"Everyone who believes is justified from everything

"The law brings wrath." (Romans 4:15)

"Those who rely on observing the law are under a curse. (Galatians 3:10)

"The power of sin to kill is the curse of the law." (1 Corinthians 15:56)

"Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law." (Galatians 3:13)

The law was temporaraily added (Romans 5:20; Galatians 3:19) to the Abrahamic covenant of grace to teach us the meaning of sin--spiritual defilement.

It was not given to make righteous.

Sorry, the journey begins here. It's not over until we meet Him-and He, not us- renders His judgment. We can't predict our own perseverance-which is why we're admonished to persevere. But those who wash their robes and endure to the end will enter heaven. Even if they didn't see themselves as righteous beforehand incidentally.

So, the only journey the born again find, is to face the "evil day" each day, and "Put on the whole armor of God", and "STAND" ......as we are already in the world but not OF IT.

Also, the born again will meet God as their FATHER.
THe unbeliever, at Revelation 20:11, will meet God as this...... John 3:36.

The born again will never face that judgment, as that is reserved for all the non- born again.

Also, the only "judgment" the born again will face after they die, or after they are raptured, is the "bema" seat, or the "judgment seat of Christ".
He does not judge SIN there, as that was Judged against Him ALREADY on The CROSS.
So, this "judgment", is for this...>"what did you do in my Body".
This is the rewards situation, where Christ will esteem our works we did for Him, all our lives, as being "wood, hay, or stubble", or Gold, Silver, or precious stones.

So, if you are in heaven, your work is over. You did it on earth, and now its being revealed and rewarded, in heaven.

The "fire" that reveals, is Christ looking at your works you did for Him, based on your HEART and your MOTIVE and your INTENT.
That is the "fire" that reveals if you served Him, with integrity, truth, and clean motive, or did you do some of your deeds for Christ so that people might give you praise, or you might get a PROMOTION in your Church..

Christ is going to look at your motives, for all you ever did for Him, and when they are pure, you get rewarded at "the judgement seat Of Christ".
If your deeds were self centered and done for vain glory, then you have the "wood, hay, stubble', that burn up in Christ's refining fire.
The born again are not harmed there....WE are blessed there, but we are also shown the rest.

"No, no, no, no. . .no. . .NO!" It means exactly what it says, and in context with the rest of the chapter. And aligns with the other passages I listed an the rest of Scripture to boot! Of course the law can't make us righteous, of course no one is justified by the law-but God gives us the power to fulfill it nonetheless-even if we never hear it. Why? Because "the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good" (Rom 7:12). The law isn't the problem-we are. What the law is powerless to do God can do, as we enter communion with Him via faith. Again:

“I will put my law in their minds
and write it on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest” Jer 31:33-34

So Paul again in Rom 7:6:
"...we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code."

“And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit." Rom 8:3-4

“Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.” Rom 8:12-13

Paul says in the very same epistle you quote, "those sanctified in Chirst are called to be holy."
(1 Corinthians 1:2)
You can't just skip over that, or waltz right by it like it doesn't exist.

And this takes us back to what I pointed out to you in the beginning as the source of your misunderstanding. . .the difference in sanctification (righteousness) between the

righteousness of justification (positional--right standing with God's justice--not guilty, sanctified) and

righteousness of sanctification (progressive--a process of growth in sancification/holiness),

both taught by Paul, which you just whizzed right on by as what. . .chopped liver?

In addition to being declared sanctified/holy through faith in Christ's atoning death on the cross (i.e., justification),
the NT likewise teaches being made sanctified/holy by the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers (i.e., process of sanctification), through obedience in the Holy Spirit.

That is how those Pauline Scriptures presented in post #977 fit into your Pauline teaching. . .
if you have the ability to receive it.

Salvation can't be "Lost"., as it was never found. Its a Gift that is given.
Reader......God isn't lost, you are, until you receive God's Gift of Salvation.
Salvation....is a Gift that is given. Its RECEIVED. You dont work to receive it, and you dont work to keep it.
A person can never stop being born., exactly as they can never stop being born again.

Go and tell your mother that you dont want to be born by her anymore.
Go and tell God you dont want to be born by Him anymore.

See that?
Take a good look until you get the revelation of : BORN AGAIN.

So, what you are trying to prove, fhansen, is that you have more power to lose your salvation, then God's Blood has the power to keep it for you, if you are born again, and not just water baptized.

To be "self righteous", is to try to make SELF......right with God by SELF.

It denies God's Grace, and replaces the Cross with SELF EFFORT.

Now look as your verse, .... specifically the phrase......"Provided you continue in = God's Kindness".
So, is that your law keeping? and your self effort, and your commandment keeping or anyone's "enduring to the end" by self effort ????
Is "God Kindness", YOU DOING IT for yourself?, as a WORK?
That is the "error of Cain" as described by JUDE.

Now listen..>"God Kindness" is "the gift of Salvation", and "the Gift of Righteousness" as the BLOOD ATONEMENT.
God's Kindness is JESUS on THE CROSS.
So, continue in THAT....as THAT is "God's Kindness"........and you are fulfilling and obeying the verse correctly.
