A SEE is the territory of a bishop. It is Old French from the Latin Sede for seat. The HOLY SEE is what RC call the Chair of Peter - the bishopric of Rome.
The bishop of Rome was originally termed the Vicar of Peter. Vicar meaning deputy. It is not until the 12th century and the Papacy of Innocent III that the pope takes the title Vicar of Christ rather than Vicar of Peter.
The name Roman Catholic was derived during the split of the English or Anglo Catholics from those who remained steadfast with the Roman See.
The Eucharist has been CENTRAL to the Christian faith from the dawn of the church. It was the transcendent observance of the faith.
It was long taught in the Roman Catholic Church that Protestants were ipso facto ****** by the very fact that they were Protestants. It may not have been OFFICIAL church teaching but it was believed, perpetuated and encouraged. It was taught to my grandparents generation that to walk in the SHADOW of a protestant church (let alone going into one) was to risk damnation - hence the practice of giving the sign of the cross when passing a Protestant church.
What is so hard to accept about the assumption of Mary? God assumed others before her who did less. Why would he not assume His own Mother?
