help with sci-fi

Would this be a place to get some help on Astronomy? I am working on a Sci-fi story involving a Mars Mission and Mining an asteroid similar to Ceres. It is smaller, but still ice covered with a core of other material.

I also want to use the asteroid as a LITERARY device. I want to avoid the triteness and twisting incongruities of time-machines, or warp speed, or worm holes.

There will be no aliens in the story and it is set in 2050, which would possibly be in my lifetime. That fact makes it quite interesting.

I agree, research is key. Um, try reading stuff by Michio Kaku who writes about physics in an easy to understand format and deals with all sorts of issues like time travel, hyperspace, phasers, shields, and what have you. I say it's good because he also talks a lot about what is possible now in our voyage to accomplish the nearly impossible. You could learn something in one of his books I'm sure.
