Will Heaven Have Oceans?

Gregory Beale notes that the parallel wording of Revelation 21:1 and 21:4 shows that “the sea is no more” previews the fact that death “will be no more,” and mourning and crying and pain “will be no more” in the consummated new creation. The convergence of allusions to Isaiah 51:10-11 (the Lord’s triumph over the sea) and to Isaiah 65:16-19 (the new heavens and earth, replacing “the former things,” weeping and crying) leads Beale to conclude, “in all likelihood, ‘sea’ is figurative for old-world threats. Therefore, the presence of a literal sea in the new creation would not be inconsistent with the figurative exclusion of the sea in 21:1.”[8]

What will the New Heaven and New Earth be like?

In today’s world, we often have to deal with floods, lightning strikes, tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, and other forms of weather that kill and destroy. However, will these kinds of phenomenon exist in Heaven? First, Scripture says that thunder, lightning, and snow show us God’s greatness (Job 37:3-6). Genesis 8:22 says, “ As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”

This is clear evidence that weather, along with temperature, will exist in Heaven. Of course, no one will be harmed by them or be killed. But how could lightning and extreme heat and cold (along with other things) exist if no one can be harmed by them? Matthew 8:23-27 tell us that Jesus can control the weather, and Ezekiel 34:26-27 says that it is God who sends rain. God can have the weather do what he wants. This often leads to the question, “why does God allow so much destruction by weather today?” The answer is simple, although we do not like to hear it. It is because of sin. Because of sin and rebellion, God no longer fully sustains his world today. He allows death because of the evil ways of mankind. However, in Heaven, he will once again sustain his creation so that nothing bad will ever happen.

Weather and seasons (see Genesis 8:22 above) will exist throughout eternity. We will get to experience the colors of autumn, the green of spring and summer, and even winter (although most will have a hard time understanding the latter). I personally hate winter. But Scripture is clear that cold itself is not evil. God will redeem it as well.

I don't know. I like snow and rain, but I'm sure that if we don't have them in heaven, it obviously won't affect our happiness.

Nothing is impossible with God.
He is not bound by the laws of physics, since He created them. The physical laws we know here on Earth may not have any bearing at all on Heaven. I would be surprised if they did apply to Heaven.

I read the article. I think there might be snow in Heaven- but a different kind. The kind that won't be so cold to cause injury or harm. I don't know what God has prepared for us, but I would like to think of people and children who never got to experience seeing snow and playing in snow getting to do so in Heaven.

I don't think he is far off, except he is blending heaven and earth together. We will only stay in Heaven until the Lord returns. When He returns we return to the Earth with him in our glorified bodies. As I understand the Bible, we will reign on this Earth for a thousand years. It will be the same Earth we know now, so the seasons will continue. Then after the White Throne judgment at the end of that thousand years when all who rejected Christ are thrown into the Lake of Fire with Satan, his demons and Hell, a new Heaven and Earth will be ushered in. What that will be like I do not know. Eye has not seen nor ear heard the things that God has prepared for those who love Him. The new Heaven and Earth will greater than the old and more glorious. Will it have seasons, I don't see why not. Many think there will not be a sun since the light that comes from Jesus and his throne will be brighter than the sun. But the scriptures do not say there will be no sun, only that the light of Jesus will light up the New Jerusalem.

I think you will be better served studying the Scriptures and praying than asking people questions. When I came to Christ, my father (a scientist) had told me that one should never seek other people's opinion on a matter until one has thoroughly examined the matter for one's self. This is so you won't be influenced by what you are told. If you are told to see something, that is what you will see, but you will not see the rest. So I read only the Bible without reading commentaries or seeking other people's opinions for the first 5 years of my walk with Christ. Of course I still heard other people's opinions because I went to church and heard the opinion of those pastors. But I read the Bible in a year from cover to cover 5 years in a row. I encourage you to do the same. The answers are in the Book. Read the Book for your self and you will know for your self. Other people's opinion has less weight than seeing something for your self.

The Pharisees and the Jews who crucified the Lord Jesus?
The Roman soldiers who tortured the Lord Jesus?
The apostles of Christ and the Prophets of God?
The people who lived and died before and during the ministry of the Christ?
The people who lived and died from the 1st century AD to the present?

Are these people in heaven? No they are not.
Are they in hell? Definitely not (yet)
Where are they now? They are still on Earth - dead, returned to dust.
Will they be in heaven? Some of them yes. The vast number in the lake of fire.

As I'm lead to understand, heaven is a word that, naturally, means the sky. But what God does with the "land and sky/earth and heaven" is create a physical analogue of empirical reality and abstract reality. Empirical means, the reality perceived through the senses. The Bible uses words like earthly, carnal, worldly, fleshly, sensual, of men. Abstract means reality perceived through the mind. The Bible used words like heavenly, spiritually, of God. The realm of thought, and idea. Heaven and earth; immaterial and material.

So when we look at the earth, we see it as very solidly made, with angles and forms, very defined, very sensual, to be felt. This being the analogue for empirical. Then when we look at the sky, it's not well defined. It's wisps of nebulous vapors drifting along a canvas of blue. Very unearthly, and this is the analogue of abstract; the realm of thought and idea.

And so the kingdom of heaven is not a worldly or empirical kingdom, it is an abstract kingdom of the mind: a kingdom of understanding. This is why Jesus would say, the kingdom doesn't come with observation. You can't see it, or touch it; it's an abstract kingdom.

Likewise, heaven isn't something we literally go to, it is a state of mind, a state of understanding; a state of heart and mind which through proper understanding of the Word brings us into a close communion with the Spirit of God within us, and causes peace with that personal idea of God that exists in our mind. A person who is not correctly understanding the Word can have a very corrupt image of God in their mind that causes them torment and fear, as they await wrath to come, or, make themselves to feel worthless and no good. But with proper understanding of the Word, the mind can be cleansed from all impurity of thought toward the relation and communion with God.

So heaven is a destination for our mind and understanding. Coming out of the darkness of fear, and enmity with God, caused by a conscience convicted of sin through ignorance, and gradually gaining clearer understanding, and coming into a better relationship with God through the lamp of understanding, the light of the Word. Once we come to this place of soundness of understanding, we have entered the kingdom of heaven, and increase in understanding from there.

So I don't believe heaven is a place we go that is like, a secondary earth hidden away in some other carnal location; but heaven is in the mind, and is readily available to us right now. We can "go to heaven" without ever having left "the earth"

BUT, I'd be remiss in not saying that, I do believe there will be a time coming in which the minds of men will have sufficiently come far enough out of the darkness of ignorance and, being lead by those in the kingdom of heaven, the earth will become "heaven on earth", entailing all that comes with that (a resurrection of the dead, a removal of disease and poverty, creation of an Edenic environment). This to me is because, the earth reflects the heaven. The earth that we currently live in is reflecting the mind of man, but when the mind of material man begins to wax toward immaterial godly mentality, then the earth will reflect the mind of God.
