OP you need to realise Harry Potter was fantasy. I took my two to tour the harry potter studios at Christmas last year. Does that make me a bad Christian? No.

Harry Potter is a work of fiction and we aren't Bronze Age people.

Sin does not go away just because time has passed. Matthew 5:28-30 condemns the mind sin of adultery or lusting (fantasizing) after a woman. Warnings of hell fire are attached to this mind sin (unless of course one confesses and forsakes such a sin) (See: 1 John 1:9, 1 John 1:7, Proverbs 28:13).

If one can commit adultery in their heart, surely one can commit the sin of witchcraft in their heart by fantasizing about witchcraft even if they never physically participate in witchcraft. Witchcraft is considered an abomination to the LORD (Deuteronomy 18:9-12). Next time, you watch a movie with a sorcerer, just picture God commanding the Israelite to put that sorcerer to death (See: Exodus 22:18). For if Harry and his friends lived during the time of the Israelites, they would be put to death by GOD's command for practicing the dark arts. Sure, they seem like nice kids. But just because somebody seems nice does not mean they are not justifying something evil and dark. Even in the New Testament, witchcraft or sorcery is condemned (See: Galatians 5:19-21, Revelation 21:8, Revelation 22:14-15).

The point they are trying to make is that both the sin of rape, and the sin of witchcraft are equally condemned with hell fire and a loss of salvation if one participates in such evils. Read Revelation 21:8, and Revelation 22:14-15, and look at Matthew 5:28-30. Just the mind sin of adultery is condemned with hell fire. Imagine if one indulges in the mind sin of witchcraft. Do you think God would approve of us fantasizing about a sin in the Old Testament that was so serious that he had those kinds of people killed who did such sins? Surely not. The harry potter books were the first book series our ten year old actually read through. We tried to get him to read all sorts of stuff. So basically he was learning to read with this stuff. But I know that many christian ministries were worried about it when it came out, and I was on par with it. In fact not until recently did I start liking harry potter. To me it's no different than liking starwars, use of the new age force for good. Most sci fi action movies are new age, most disney movies deal with magic of some sorts. It just goes to show that things we don't understand, keep our interest when watching a movie. We don't fully comprehend the new age forces or the pagan magic. So a movie with those empowerments but taken in a positive light, or used for good....can create for some entertainment for the family. My son has ADD so he fell in love with harry potter and how he used his powers for good. No different than luke skywalker using his force for good. Are they christian based movies? Not so much. But they are not evil movies. Some of the movies are 'dark.' and have some scary moments for kids. My kids would hide under a blanket or run out of the room. But they know that these movies all end well. But the reason why I quoted romans 14 is that we learn to be sensitive to others convictions, bible highligher needs to realize some of us like harry potter, while some of us need to realize some (especially those who have come out of a history of witchcraft into Christianity), may not like harry potter. So the necessity to live in unity with all people. 'not to use our freedom to stumble another brother."

No doubt, evil is enticing. The enemy is be able to bring forth false signs and wonders. Devil worshipers worship the devil because there is some kind of power that they can have in worshiping him. But it is limited. Granted, I am not saying you or your family is worshiping the devil. But if you allow for evil or witchcraft into your home with Harry Potter, you do open your door up to demonic activity whether you realize it or not. What may look like something good for your son, is actually a deception of the enemy. But do not take my word for it. In time, as you follow the Lord with a pure genuine heart, you will see that these things are pure evil. I do not need to convince you. God will convince you (if you continue to have a pure heart in seeking the truth).

When I was prodigal, and loving the things of this world, and believed in Jesus as my Savior alone and yet there was no real desire to really read my Bible, or pray all that much, etc., I could not see how Harry Potter was pure evil. I owned the DVD's during that period of my life. But when I rededicated my life to God in following Him, and surrendered my all to Jesus, and started to really study His Word (not as men teach) but as what God teaches, then I started to learn by GOD what He wanted to teach me. There are Christians (on fire for the Lord and helping people in the streets) who later went to Bible school in Brazil, and they came out being unbelievers. Why? Because Bible schools make a person to disbelieve what their Bible says plainly in the English. It happens here in the States, too. People walk away from GOD. Christians today need to reject the popular scholars and Bible school teachers that attempt to re-write God's Word. Bible schools lead people to be lukewarm and into worldliness and into how they must have a big church building and make a business out of God's people. This is why many cannot see what this topic is talking about.

New Covenant (New Testament) believers are actually for non-resistance because that is what Jesus and Paul taught.

These are the comments of young readers of the Harry Potter wizard books quoted on a new video by Jeremiah Films. On the video, called Harry Potter: Witchcraft Repackaged, Making Evil Look Innocent, author Robert S. McGee explains: "Children as young as kindergarten are being introduced to human sacrifice, the sucking of blood from dead animals, and possession by spirit beings."

Courts have banned the teaching of Christianity in public schools but Wicca, which is recognized by the U.S. courts as a religion and given tax-exempt status by the IRS, is taught freely. Harry Potter has become the method of introduction of Wicca to the very young.

Harry Potter materials have become much more than a hand full of children's fantasy books. Warner Brothers, Coca Cola, Minutemaid, and Mattel have used the Potter materials to launch games, puzzles, toys, backpacks, and every possible merchandizing product.

Scholastic, Inc., a major supplier of public school teaching aids has added the Potter literature to its line of curriculum materials. When the name "Harry Potter" is keyed into the Scholastic.com web site search engine, it returns 268 matches. "Jesus" returned only 23.

And now, a major movie is about to break on the scene called "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." Millions of dollars are being spent on pre-release hype.

Once introduced to the world of wizards, spells, and dark arts, readers of Harry Potter can advance their knowledge and skills in witchcraft and paganism by visiting the hundreds of web sites available on the internet.

Or, they can purchase more books on the subject from the well stocked Wiccan sections in local book super stores. Or, they can find over a thousand volumes on witchcraft available at Amazon.com.

Harry Potter books have taken the world of children's fantasy literature by storm. Over 200 million have been sold in 40 languages. One study shows that over half of the children in the western world have read at least one of the Potter books. Many reported rereading each book several times.

But is it just fantasy literature like Snow White and Cinderella? In the Harry Potter video, cult expert Caryl Matrisciana points out that in the older stories, evil never prevails.

There are no absolutes in his world. What is right depends on the situation.

Witchcraft now has a complete package. Starting in kindergarten with Harry Potter and TV witch shows, children are led on to the horror movies and hundreds of Wicca and pagan web sites. When they thirst for more power, high school and college Wicca covens are available. In the adult world, corporations are hiring New Age practitioners to provide seminars in sensitivity training, stress relief, and self improvement for employees.

Former Satanist William Schnoebelen points out in his book, Wicca, Satan's Little White Lie, that, "I finally learned in the most graphic fashion imaginable that the difference between witchcraft or Wicca and Satanism is actually non-existent."

Before he was saved he found himself cruising the streets looking for a lone female to assault, not for sex, but to drink her blood.

The bottom line is a hunger for power. Harry Potter and the rest of witchcraft promises that power. But in the end they discover that Satan is really in charge of the power and only uses it like cheese in a mouse trap.

Harry Potter provides a basic initiation into witchcraft for a whole new generation. Imagine what the world will be like when they grow up.

I'm saying you shouldn't think everything that you don't understand or has "magical" imagery is automatically witchcraft/satanic. You are making the same mistake and having the same superstitious POV's as the people back in Salem.

Cis.jd, I have conversed and debated with you before, many times. You are far too intelligent of a person for me to believe that you do not understand the simple fact that if something is not of the Lord, the bible, Godly or righteous according to the scripture... then it can only be from one other camp.... Satan.

So, if you can show me in the scripture where people waved around wands and chanted little phrases in order to accomplish some supernatural result.... Then, I'll believe you.

Otherwise, I will stick to the idea that this is not even close to being from God... and therefore... it is from Satan.. and is presented like a wolf in sheep's clothing, to the children and youth of this world in order to peek their interest in witchcraft and Satanic practices.
