Poll: Almost 70 Percent of Voters Want Tougher Border Policies

Seven out of 10 American voters want stricter border policies once they are told about the current level of illegal migration, according to a May 17-18 Harvard-Harris poll.

Sixty-eight percent of Americans, including 73 percent of swing-voting independents, told the pollsters they want stricter border policies once they were given this information:

Over 2.75 million came into the United States illegally over a twelve-month period ending September 2022, and more than 1.2 million have crossed since then. Given these numbers, should the administration continue its current policies or issue new, stricter policies to reduce the flow of people coming across the border?

Federal Judge Temporarily Blocks Biden Admin From Removing Texas Border Wire

A federal judge temporarily blocked border patrol Monday from removing barbed wire placed on the border by Texas state authorities.

The state sued the Biden administration last week over the government’s practice of cutting wire Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott instructed state authorities to place along the border in response to increased illegal crossings. In an 11-page order, U.S. District Court Judge Alina Moses, a George W. Bush appointee, temporarily blocked the Biden administration from “disassembling, degrading, [or] tampering with” the wire and set a hearing for Nov. 7 to consider the issue in greater depth.

Mayorkas’ border bet fails as illegal immigration rises

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas began 2023 with a bet: He figured if he gave illegal immigrants a chance to schedule their arrivals, he could get them to come in an “orderly” fashion through airports and official crossings and stop sneaking into the U.S.

As the year nears its end, it is clear that his gamble has failed.

Illegal immigrants have jumped at his offer of scheduled arrivals, but that has done little to tamp down the flow of people trying to sneak into the country.

The result is unprecedented border chaos from a rush of people either scheduling their arrivals or coming unannounced.

Among the yardsticks, the Border Patrol said it detected record numbers of convicted criminals in fiscal 2023, which just concluded. Agents also shattered the record for terrorism suspects, with more than the previous six years combined. More fentanyl flowed across the border than ever. Agents were called to make more rescues than in 2021 and 2022 combined.

Actual illegal migration numbers show that Customs and Border Patrol recorded encounters of 3.2 million inadmissible migrants in fiscal 2023. That was five times the number in 2020, the last full year under President Trump.

Senate GOP’s border security plan would restart border wall, restrict asylum claims

1699420053985.png

Key Senate Republicans on Monday announced a road map for stiffening border security by restarting construction on the border wall, limiting the expansive asylum claims illegal immigrants use to get caught and released, and shutting down the “family loophole” that rewards migrants who bring children on the dangerous journey.

“President Biden’s border policies are not working and it’s time to change course,” said Mr. Graham, South Carolina Republican. “Our proposal makes the necessary changes that our country needs at this critical time.”

"It's poisoning the blood of our country"
I guess he (or his fans) likes that line.

Trump tells rally immigrants are ‘poisoning the blood of our country’

Donald Trump, just weeks after using the fascist terminology “vermin” to describe sections of American society he dislikes, again declared at a New Hampshire rally that immigrants are “poisoning the blood of our country”.

It is the second time Trump has used the poisoned blood phrase, which has been widely condemned for echoing white supremacist rhetoric.

The broadcaster Mehdi Hasan said on Saturday: “Classic Trump: say something crazy outrageous, neo-Nazi-like and it gets headlines, creates outrage.

“So wait a little. Then say it again, no one notices, no coverage, and it gets normalized and mainstreamed.

New York councilman protests ‘unsustainable and unfair’ policies on immigration

“The hypocrisy of some of my colleagues in government is astonishing. Not too long ago, they were quick to label Republicans as ’anti-immigrant’ for advocating for secure borders and rational immigration policies. They urged President Biden to end the Remain in Mexico policy and cheered when the courts ended Title 42. Now, faced with the consequences of these decisions, they are finally sounding the alarm. But it’s too little, too late,” the councilman said.

Migrant charged in brutal beating of NYC cops had been caught at border — and released — last year

The Judiciary panel called out “President Joe Biden and ‘border czar’ Vice President Kamala Harris” for the release of Brito — and “well over 7 million illegal aliens” — into the US, saying the move unleashed crime across the country.

I would encourage you to read the full story. This guy was caught and released numerous time throughout the course of his US crime spree.

Homeland Security has detected multiple instances of people armed with guns sneaking into the U.S. from Mexico, including one where agents trying to arrest a group of illegal immigrants came under fire twice

Days later, National Guard troops assigned to assist the Border Patrol were using a scope to keep tabs on the wilderness area and they spotted an armed person climb over the border fence.

A day later, two more armed persons were spotted in the same place.

Y'know........................... I hate to sound like Bugs Bunny, but "What's up with this?" There's supposedly (statistically) several million American men in need of jobs. I'm sure that the National Guard could be 1) quadrupled or quintupled in employment numbers easily enough and 2) each paid twice more [at least] for their services.

And then there'd be a more effective deterrent at the border.

This was the first hit I got from Google.

No surprise. Google has a Liberally biased algorithm.

I just posted a thread with this snippet earlier this morning:

Majority polled blame Harris for border crisis

The findings were released three months ahead of the November election and as the number of illegal border crossers since Biden-Harris took office surpassed 12.5 million in July, the largest number in U.S. history during a single administration’s term. This includes two million who evaded capture, according to data published by The Center Square that the federal government doesn’t publicize. Law enforcement officials have expressed concerns about the unknown security threats they pose, also stating there is no way to know how many are illegally in the country.

Numerous polls, including The Center Square Voter’s Voice Polls, show that registered voters want U.S. troops sent to the southern border, want the border to be secure, disapprove of Harris as border czar, argue the border crisis worsened under her and support Texas’ border security efforts.

Sure, anything is possible.
Say, have you have you calculated the cost of deploying such a force for x number of years?

I'm not an economics major, but I wonder if others have calculated the cost of allowing a continuous, unregulated stream of people over the border?

I'm not a socialist, so I have a hard time thinking the cost/benefit ratio is practical. But I'm always open to being educated on this potential.

Or we could simply fix our broken immigration system.... a system that has been broke since the 1980's.

One would think the Democrats, with as much time as they've had in office over the past 30 years, would have done so by now ...

One would think that BOTH parties would have resolved it by now. From what I have observed since the end of the Cold War, the GOP is far more interested in exploiting illegal immigration as a political issue, than actually working together with Democrats to create solutions.

Why? Those profiting from illegal labor support them too.

The problem is too useful, and the supply of illegal labor too profitable, to fix.

Yes, the Republicans have also dropped the ball as well. I can't disagree with that.

That's true. And I'm more than willing to apply equal amounts of critical thinking sauce to both all political parties in our nation.
