How do you figure "they needed to secure the floor"?
Pretty sure @Hank77 is right. Even if the local cops had known exactly where the shooter was from the moment he put the first round down range, 10 minutes is very short time to go from standing by to conducting a breaching action.

And I don't think they had a SWAT team on location.

The city (or hotels) will likely have sharpshooters on hotel tops soon.
I'm just giving them another tool.

So all gun owners in the US are suppose to pay more for their guns and be tracked by anyone and their brother so the YOU can track down a shooter in your neighborhood? No.
There is another aspect to this that no one is talking about. I get the second amendment, I own guns myself (three, at the present time) and enjoy target shooting as a sport. But Paddock had an arsenal, which to my mind makes it a different situation.
If I own anything in large amounts that is dangerous I am generally subject to some kind of oversight--for my own good and for public safety--even if I own it legally. If I had a collection of high-pressure steam engines, or a cage of lions, or a factory with tanks of dangerous chemicals. Why isn't it the same with guns? Paddock had a houseful of machine guns, a dangerous concentration of firepower even if he didn't go nuts and blow a bunch of people away. He was an old man living alone, what if he had been raided and all that firepower fell into the hands of terrorists or drug dealers? The second amendment allows us to own guns. It may even (!) allow us to own an arsenal of automatic weapons but not, I think, without some kind of public safety oversight.

This has got nothing to do with government, other than they require all guns
be built that way.
so what if someone fires a shot BECAUSE they were fired upon or because they felt a reasonable fear Fires in self-defense in other words.

Rubbish. You are located behind Atlantic Ocean which cuts the poor African refugees out.

How has your gun ownership helped against illegal immigrants from poor neighbor with land border. I hear there are few illegal Mexicans around.

So how about few links from European countries where refugees outnumber the native population? Rubbish again.

US gun deaths are Government work? All those agent toddlers shooting others. Ridiculous.

You might want to travel bit more and watch Fox News bit less.
Those African refugees are overwhelming Europe. If the people of a nation are outnumbered by refugees who care not for the culture of those nations, how long can those nations survive?

Do the math. Europeans, like Americans have not reproduced to increase their population, and are barely maintaining their population at 1.9 %. Muslims have 4 or more children and many have up to 4 wives bearing more children as well.

I live in Texas and I am aware of border line ranchers who use their guns to keep illegals from crossing their properties and I have read reports of the same in New Mexico, Arizona and some in Southern California.

If you can not see that the US and state governments are controlled by the bankers, you have your head in the sand. In which case I suggest you be careful because people with their head in the sand have their butts exposed and unprotected.

As I said, I don't own or use a gun, although I am thinking of getting a rifle to shoot some armadillos that are digging up my yard.

I meant from standing by in their donut shop or whatever. SWAT type units are usually very cautious. They like to be well briefed, and even rehearsed., if possible, before moving on an active shooter. I think probably the best you could hope for before a couple of hours is a lucky shot from a sniper, and even then a sniper is going to have a hard time going from donut shop to firing position in 10 minutes.

My dad had illegal guns when senile.
My father-in law had illegal guns when senile.
My brother shot himself dead with my fathers illegal gun.
People shoot others as they drive by.
I am very sorry to hear about your brother. That must have been very painful for you and others.

Where did your father and father-in-law get their illegal guns from?

This is for ME to tack gunfire in my neighborhood. The only rules I would place on the feds is to make their information open to the public instantly so I could use it if I choose. Other wise, I will track the gun usage myself anyway. This radio information would be open source on public frequencies.

I'm even considering it be on normal radio frequencies so you would hear interference on your favorite radio station.
What do you care if people are legally shooting guns? If it is illegal feel free to call the law.

If we criminalize the illegal use of guns, that will help.
Same for knives if you wish.
By definition, if something is illegal it is criminalized, so we have already done that.

They always ask where the shooter is.
This is so I know.

I've sent the OP to three senators so far.
You heard it here first!

Nope. Expansion of my right to fight against illegal gun usage.
I will track the shooters myself, with my phone.

My dad had illegal guns when senile.
My father-in law had illegal guns when senile.
My brother shot himself dead with my fathers illegal gun.
People shoot others as they drive by.

I'm just asking to know after the gun is fired, when and where it was fired.
Too much to ask from you?
but in order to do that you would need the government to mandate people make guns that way which they cannot do without it being a gross violation.

It's not (practically) against the law to discharge a weapon
if nobody can locate the shooter. In this regards my city
has added gunshot location systems already.

Legal gun toters would remain invisible.
How? Legal gun owners shoot their guns.
How do you figure "they needed to secure the floor"?
There was at least one service cart in the hallway. A camera had been planted on that cart so that the shooter could see who was coming. He could have planted a bomb on that cart. Law enforcement needs to make sure of what dangers they may be facing before they proceed. If they had just rushed that door they could have been setting themselves up to be killed themselves before they could help anyone.

True. The government would interfere with the manufacture of guns and design.
Even more than current safety requirements.
