Heritage Foundation researcher: Green New Deal 'would devastate the economy,' hit working families hardest

Democrats' proposed Green New Deal (GND) could end up costing households much more than they bargained for, Heritage Foundation Research Fellow Joel Griffith said Friday.

Appearing on "Fox & Friends First" Friday morning with host Heather Childers, Griffith said that the legislation's hefty $93 trillion price tag over its first 10 years would devastate working families.

"There's really nothing audacious about it except for its absolute absurdity and that's because this constitutes a federal power grab that would devastate the economy and it would hurt those working families the hardest," he stated.

Oh you don't say? A Heritage Foundation researcher came onto Fox & Friends to make this claim? The Heritage Foundation receives enormous funding from ExxonMobil specifically to parrot out climate change ignorance. They know the foundation has influence on Trump, having pushed him to hire a number of totally unqualified ppl to major positions (BETSY DEVOS) bc they are longterm Republican donors and also feed into ExxonMobil.

hmmm..wonder what NYC under water may do to the economy...probably too late now anyway
Miami as well. But it's not as if any group has promised to shut off one light bulb of their own. Or drive one less mile.

Green New Deal: War On Fossil Fuels
This quest to outlaw fossil fuels is even more delusional given that shale oil and gas is now providing the cheapest energy in world history to even the poorest areas of the globe. Our competitors like China, India, Russia and OPEC will replace the U.S. as major producers of cheap coal, oil and natural gas. Because these countries have much lower environmental standards than we do, the GND could cause global greenhouse gas emissions to rise, not fall.

Moreover, 100% renewable energy in the next 10 to 20 years is probably technically infeasible. The U.S. government has spent well over $150 billion over the last decade, according to the Institute for Energy Research, but today we get less than 10% of our energy from "green" renewable sources. To move to 100% renewable could cost the economy at least $2 trillion — making these handouts to the wind and solar industries the biggest corporate welfare giveaway in American history.

10 Million Jobs Lost?
Meanwhile, as many as 10 million Americans currently employed directly or indirectly in the oil, gas and coal industries are likely to lose their jobs, while manufacturers, transportation companies and steel producers will see factories chased out of the U.S., thus reversing the productivity gains from the Trump tax cuts and deregulation policies.

In many countries, market forces are driving the switch to renewables. I am aware that the Right doesn't want that to happen here because renewable energy is "socialism." But how to you expect to manage it? Taxing renewables? Increasing the present subsidies for fossil fuels?

A more objective perspective than the Koch brothers slaves...

Would a Green New Deal Add or Kill Jobs?

If any of that stuff happens, which I doubt, the whole country would go bust so losing a few million jobs is going to be the least of anyone's problems.

But it won't happen. Congress need their bribes and they won't want the country totally bankrupt

guess you didn't read the article...

IMPACT ON EMPLOYMENT
We estimate that the more conservative $25 carbon tax would boost U.S. employment by 1.4 million jobs each year between 2020 and 2030, which is nearly a 1 percent increase above the reference–case forecast of 160 million jobs in 2030. As the economy expands and the tax increases, job growth from the GND would accelerate, creating, on average, 3.4 million new jobs each year between 2040 and 2050—a nearly 2 percent increase above the 182 million jobs forecast for the U.S. in 2050. Overall, it is estimated that 72 million job years would be created over the three decades with a $25 carbon tax. (Note that if one job continues after one year for another 12 months, it represents two job years.)

If you take a peak at Pinnocio in Chief's deficits we are already bankrupt.

Those figures incorporate the cost of electricity production in the first year of the program, a one-time upgrade to vehicles and housing, as well as shipping and logistics costs incurred from GND mandates.

Because that's totally how the program would be implemented.

Can right-wingers come up with an argument that isn't ridiculous?
