...I remember the days when the left supported workers rights and strong unions. Today that no longer seems to be the case.

And then her employer decided they didn't want an employee who was publicly disparaging their own business.
This is incorrect. Ironworkers, postalworkers, and a whole array of other kinds of workers under AFL-CIO union memberships are granted an array of such protections.

I support not only workers rights, but also privacy rights, and free speech.
Are you kidding? Democratic candidates still campaign heavily for union workers.
"Free speech" is only incumbent upon the government.
People who appear in a public meeting have no presumption of privacy.
Both of those are laws and jurisprudence in every state of the Union.
We still do. Workers have a right to not be made sick and killed by other workers who are massively irresponsible, by refusing free, life saving medicine without good reason....I remember the days when the left supported workers rights and strong unions. Today that no longer seems to be the case.
That doesn't mean it's a "bad" idea to extend Democratic concepts beyond governance... If an idea is good, we can apply that concept to other areas of life as well - there's nothing inherently wrong with that. In fact, it seems to be the natural thing to do.

It can result in forcing businesses to lose money.
What you seem to be failing to mention is our culture has only recently become engulfed in economics and money, primarily, where formerly, it was based more in line with personal freedoms, privacy, liberty.
Don't you think it's a little sad that this has all become lost to economic worship?
...Just a little bit?
...Can we negotiate the two, and bring balance to the system?
You keep talking like this is something new.
I keep telling you that employers have always fired employees who publicly disparage their businesses.

I really did like that series. Our culture became totally "engulfed" during the rise of Rockefeller, Carnegie and those guys... I'm sure you already know, but the following series was really well put together.

seems like a lot of work for nothing, to me. That lady will simply become a nurse elsewhere. All they did is inconvenience her.
Perhaps we were destined to reach this sad point of economic worship then. But that still doesn’t make me like it.
I refuse to accept that we as a culture cannot apply greater focus on freedom, personal liberty, and individual rights. In fact, I'm willing to stand up for it out of principle.
