  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

#1 Episcopal/Anglican Church

#2 Evangelical Lutheran Church

#3 Methodist/Weslian Church

#4 Liberal Quakerism

#5 Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod

The United Church of Canada, which I attend, was created by the union of several denominations, including the Methodists, and they seem to do things the way Methodists do in many respects. My top 2 choices for a church when I move are Episcopal and Methodist; the Episcopal church at first seemed a bit too formal for me, but I'm beginning to think that might not be such a bad thing.

And the Quakers are starting to look pretty good too. :D

Oh my...since I'm still inbetween on my spiritual direction, I wasn't very strict on my preferences which got interesting results. I remember a few years ago taking a religion quiz like this one (all religions though) and I got Orthodox Quaker. Hehe.

#1) Eastern Orthodox Church
#2) Evangelical Lutheran Church
#3) Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod
"Roman" Catholic came seventh behind Methodist!
And the church I was raised in, PCUSA, was 17th! Behind Baptist & Pentecostal Churches (which are totally not my thing)
Hehe..well, if I hadn't put the infallible authority thing has no preference (something I'm going back and forth on now) Catholic would probably be higher up. I was dissapointed Quaker wasn't higher too, but then, all of the faiths I'm looking at tend to be a bit stricter than the Society of Friends. :)

This was great!!

1. Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (go figure)
2. Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (I knew this would happen)
3. Anglican/Episcopalian
4. Methodist/Weslyan

I wasn't surprised at the results, but this was cool, and fun to do. Thanks a lot Lotar!

Ok I do not know about this survey. It says I would join Assemblies of God over the Catholic Church? Actually RCC was #5. Lotar this predicts that I will be joining you in Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
I think they bumped Catholic down to #5 because of the infallible authority question - it says do you believe it resides in a man/few men/group - I said no. I believe it is in the office, not the individual. .

#1: Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod
#2: Evangelical Lutheran Church
#3: Assemblies of God
#4: Eastern Orthodox Church
#5: Roman Catholic Church
#6: Mennonite Brethren
#7: Methodist/Weslyian Church
#8: Seventh-Day Adventist
#9: Church of Christ
#10: Episcopal/Anglican Church

Well, I'm not surprised -- my number one is the church to which I belong, and the second and third are the two churches I feel most "akin" to other than my own:
#1Episcopal/Anglican Church
#2Evangelical Lutheran Church
#3Eastern Orthodox Church

A nice find, Lotar!!
