I am a composite being; soul and body. I was born into a state of sin inherited, and was freed of it by God's Grace when I was baptized into His life of Grace. I didn't appreciate that as a newborn, but of all of the things my parents have ever done for me I would have to say that making me able to participate in the Divine Life of God himself is the gift of theirs for which I am most thankful.

"It is always possible to make a new start by means of repentance. ‘You fell,’ it is written, ‘now arise’ (cf. Prov. 24:16). And if you fall again, then rise again, without despairing at all of your salvation, no matter what happens. So long as you do not surrender yourself willingly to the enemy, your patient endurance, combined with self-reproach, will suffice for your salvation." - St. Peter Damaskos Book 1 - Benefit of True Repentance
