  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I Have been on Hughes sat net for a couple of years, and because of frequent outages and slow internet speeds; we have changed over to Exede Satellite; which I guess is old Wildblue under a different name. As we also run a business here we went for the ultimate plan of 150 GB per month; using their viasat-1 satellite. Has anybody had experience with Exede?

I Have been on Hughes sat net for a couple of years, and because of frequent outages and slow internet speeds; we have changed over to Exede Satellite; which I guess is old Wildblue under a different name. Well it's been almost two months and seems there is not much experience with satellite internet here on CF; or at least Hughes or Exede; so I thought I would give my 2 cents worth; on the two.

Hughes would normally run about 3.80MB/sec-- advertised as up to 10MB/SEC-- but with slow down during prime time on the eastern US seaboard of 3pm to 12midnight ETZ.

Exede runs between 10 and 12 MB/sec--advertised at up to 15MB/sec-- and right now, just looked at it, with this site running and it was doing 11.37 MB/sec ; and at night can get 14+MBs most of the time; so that is much better then Hughes.

That was with Hughes business plan @ about $100 per month and with a 15GB cap per month; but it didn't seem like we ever got close to that much, and if you went over their limit you were slowed down to dial-up speed; barley enough to read your email. They did have a free period from 12midnight till 8am PTZ; which helped turn me into more of a night owl then I already was, but it had a lot of outages and slow down in the middle of the night for no reason.

Exede was advertising there business plan at $179 a month; but they have brought there prices down to $70 a month; for 150Gb per month, since last August, their site on line still has the higher price. This was due to their launching a new satt--Viasat-1 satellite last year.

Videos now run without looking like movies of the 1920s. The installation was advertised at $299 but when we hooked up it was $150.

If you have Direct TV; you can bundle it with internet; this seems to be getting down to what people pay in town for high speed with cable net works. So all in all I would say Exced; excedded our expectations and Hughes net better get busy and throw up another satellite if they want to compete. :)
