  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Evolution is just a theory!

The flood was a devise used by the Hebrew redactors when they were trying to trace their bloodlines back to Adam. Unable to do so they decided to drown the whole world in its wickedness. They didn't claim to be writing Gods word. They were appealing to a dejected, scattered audience. It worked.
And you would know this how?

Are you aware, it was Christian geologists, that first debunked a biblical flood?
So-called "Christian" scholars and theologians (and now geologists) have been attacking the Bible narratives for a long time now. So what else is new? We have so-called "Christian" professors today who are doing the very same thing. They just don't have the courage to say "We are simply pretenders. You should not be listening to us".

If they disagree with your personal theology, they are not true Christians?

I would imagine they have gone the way of all skeletons. They are chalk or limestone.
Not one skeleton was found on the Titanic when they found it.

Not debunked. That's an atheistic fallacy. You go on too many Darwin Evolution websites.
Pretenders of what?
It really is logical. To be a believer, you actually have to BELIEVE in the bible. :p

Again ... what Hebrew priest?

Adam wrote Genesis 1 & 2.

And he wrote Genesis 1 & 2 in [King James] English.
Mind if I quote you on that?

Oh, I get that. I mean, when your knowledge of the world only extended a few hundred miles (at most) around you, then you tried to fit what you could in to that area.

The picture is just a modern day picture of where the flood took place. In the Tigris Euphrates River Valley in around the year 2300 BC.

From 1922 to 1934, an archaeologist named C. Leonard Woolley excavated the site of the ancient Sumerian city of Ur. He found a layer where there was a flood deposit which he believed was from the great flood. This is exactly what people would expect to find is a layer where you find a deposit from the flood. Very little survived this flood.

woolleys_trench_sketch.jpg

And yet modern geological evidence shows that there are no flood deposits that suggest a global flood.
I can fully believe that there was flooding near the Tigrus and the Euphrates, but remember that the claim is that the flood was global, which is what many creationists claim.

Close but no cigar, or in your case no banana. What has been debunked is that Noah's flood was a world wide flood. It is a shadow and a type of the world wide flood that took place when the Supercontinent Pangaea broke up. This is an issue with two words: Adamah and Erets. The translators use the same word: Earth.

Gen 4:14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth (Adamah); H127and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth (Erets); and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.

In the Hebrew it is clear what is going on here. Cain had been driven from Adamah, the land of Eden. He was afraid that he would be killed. The most likely reason for this is that Cain was going to need food and there is competition for food in the Earth. Like in Alaska today were people and bears eat the same food. My son in Alaska has had his tent tore apart twice by bears wanting to get his food. That is why we found an old van for him to sleep in because the bears can not tear apart a van. Good that God helps us and provides for our needs in life.

If you go through the book of Genesis looking at the origional Hebrew, esp the words: Adamah & Erets, then it all starts to make sense. Man in Eden had become corrupted and their corruption was spreading the the whole earth. God had to put a stop to that. So God went in and he took care of it.

Often the word Adamah was translated: "ground". If they stuck to this then everything would have been fine. Then everyone would understand that the flood was upon the ground in what we call Eden. Adam and Eve were thrown out of the Garden of Eden, then their son Cain after he killed Able, he was thrown out of the Land of Eden. Later on Eden became corrupt and God decided to destory it. Not the whole world, but the land of Eden. Only God spared the plants and the animals. Noah packed the whole eco system up on a boat. Science confirms that this is true. This was the beginning of farming. The plants and animals from the middle east expanded and filled the world. Science has put a HUGE amount of effort and work into understanding how civilization began and how agriculture spread to the world from the Middle East. So there is a HUGE amount of scientific evidence to show that the Bible is true and accurate in this regard.

This is irony for people that like to see the irony meter broken. Here is the one area where people are so very sure that the Bible is NOT accurate and true and actually it is the area where science has done the MOST amount of research and study and it can now be shown that the Bible is very accurate and true.

In the Ancient Hebrew language none of this is any problem. The problem is in the translation. This is an issue that goes back even before the King James people began their work on the Bible. Although the King James people did fix this in many other verses. For example: "2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground," They used the word "Ground" for Adamah NOT Earth. Also you will notice the word "dust" is used here in the original Hebrew. As we now know a Hebrew word is HUGE. It would take at least a whole book just to explain ONE Hebrew word. In this case we are talking about the word "dust" which we now know refers to the elements in the ground that God used to make mankind. The plants take the elements from the ground and the energy from the light of the sun and this is why man needs food for his life and his substance.

I really am trying to be brief here. But when I say there is an exceeding abundance of scientific evidence for the Bible I mean just that. For example if your talking about the "dust", if your talking about the elements that God made man from how many books could we write explaining the elements. Not only that but how the elements make up man. Yet people do not understand science, they do not understand the Bible and the mock the idea that man came from the dust of the "earth" only the dust here is translated from the Hebrew word "Adamah". In the book: "Walking the Bible" Bruce Feiler talks about the ground in Eden. He has an epitome when he realized that THIS is the land that God used to make man.

Gen 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground (Adamah); for out of it wast thou taken: for dust H6083 thou art, and unto dust H6083 shalt thou return.

At one time I use to believe in a global flood. Until a Christian geologist challenged me to examine the evidence. Then when I saw that the flood had to be "local" in the land of Eden I went back to the Bible and studied the origional Hebrew language. I found that science does a very good job of proving the Bible to be accurate and true when you understand the Bible. "rightly dividing the word of truth."

1Tim2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.16 But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness,…

The terminal breakup of Pangia, 600-550 million years ago was not "sudden", rather it was very gradual. And that super continental breakup was preceded by the breakup of Rodinia between 1.1 and 750 billion years ago. Before that there were smaller continental movements.

Cain was afraid of the people in other tribes not polar bears. He found a wife among the Nodites and built a city.

But then you're under the burden of proof to show that Eden existed, to show that the claim in Genesis is factual.

There is an abundance of scientific evidence that shows that Eden existed as a biodiverse eco system. Just as science uses the words "Adam" and "Eve" they also use the word: "Eden" There were at least 18 Edens in the world. Both on land and in the Ocean. For example China has their own "Eden". Where rice is their main grain and they have plants like boc choy. Go to an Asian store and see if their food (fresh produce) is not a little different from the food that we find in the Middle East. They like fresh food and they will often put a plant in the ground and let it grow. They just trim off the leaves as the plant grows. Even a lot of living plants need to be trimmed. They prosper and grow all that much better when people or animals are eating them.

It does not matter if your afraid of people or animals. In fact God said that the Hebrew Children were to take over the land gradual. They were to increase as the people on the land would decrease.

Ex 23 29 "I will not drive them out before you in a single year, that the land may not become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. 30"I will drive them out before you little by little, until you become fruitful and take possession of the land.…

Of course we all know that the people of Israel are still fighting with the Palestine people for the land. The land was given to Abraham and his descendants. Both Israel and the Palestine call Abraham their father. So they are fighting over their inheritance.

Of course David killed a Lion and a Bear and he did not consider that the Giant was going to be any problem for him. 1 sam 17 "Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God."

You keep using the colloquial meaning of Eden as proof that Eden actually existed. That doesn't prove anything.
I can get fresh food in any supermarket in the UK, but that is not proof in any way that Eden was a real place.

Mat 23 24 "You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel."

Go buy a biology book and do a study on what a bio diverse ecology is. Then you will be able to carry on a conversation about what happened in Eden.
