Close but no cigar, or in your case no banana. What has been debunked is that Noah's flood was a world wide flood. It is a shadow and a type of the world wide flood that took place when the Supercontinent Pangaea broke up. This is an issue with two words: Adamah and Erets. The translators use the same word: Earth.
Gen 4:14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the
earth (Adamah);
H127and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the
earth (Erets); and it shall come to pass,
that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
In the Hebrew it is clear what is going on here. Cain had been driven from Adamah, the land of Eden. He was afraid that he would be killed. The most likely reason for this is that Cain was going to need food and there is competition for food in the Earth. Like in Alaska today were people and bears eat the same food. My son in Alaska has had his tent tore apart twice by bears wanting to get his food. That is why we found an old van for him to sleep in because the bears can not tear apart a van. Good that God helps us and provides for our needs in life.
If you go through the book of Genesis looking at the origional Hebrew, esp the words: Adamah & Erets, then it all starts to make sense. Man in Eden had become corrupted and their corruption was spreading the the whole earth. God had to put a stop to that. So God went in and he took care of it.
Often the word Adamah was translated: "ground". If they stuck to this then everything would have been fine. Then everyone would understand that the flood was upon the ground in what we call Eden. Adam and Eve were thrown out of the Garden of Eden, then their son Cain after he killed Able, he was thrown out of the Land of Eden. Later on Eden became corrupt and God decided to destory it. Not the whole world, but the land of Eden. Only God spared the plants and the animals. Noah packed the whole eco system up on a boat. Science confirms that this is true. This was the beginning of farming. The plants and animals from the middle east expanded and filled the world. Science has put a HUGE amount of effort and work into understanding how civilization began and how agriculture spread to the world from the Middle East. So there is a HUGE amount of scientific evidence to show that the Bible is true and accurate in this regard.
This is irony for people that like to see the irony meter broken. Here is the one area where people are so very sure that the Bible is NOT accurate and true and actually it is the area where science has done the MOST amount of research and study and it can now be shown that the Bible is very accurate and true.
In the Ancient Hebrew language none of this is any problem. The problem is in the translation. This is a issue that goes back even before the King James people began their work on the Bible. Although the King James people did fix this in many other verses. For example: "
2:7 And the
LORD God formed man of the
dust of the
ground," They used the word "Ground" for Adamah NOT Earth. Also you will notice the word "dust" is used here in the original Hebrew. As we now know a Hebrew word is HUGE. It would take at least a whole book just to explain ONE Hebrew word. In this case we are talking about the word "dust" which we now know refers to the elements in the ground that God used to make mankind. The plants take the elements from the ground and the energy from the light of the sun and this is why man needs food for his life and his substance.
I really am trying to be brief here. But when I say there is an exceeding abundance of scientific evidence for the Bible I mean just that. For example if your talking about the "dust", if your talking about the elements that God made man from how many books could we write explaining the elements. Not only that but how the elements make up man. Yet people do not understand science, they do not understand the Bible and the mock the idea that man came from the dust of the "earth" only the dust here is translated from the Hebrew word "Adamah". In the book: "Walking the Bible" Bruce Feiler talks about the ground in Eden. He has an epitome when he realized that THIS is the land that God used to make man.
Gen 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground (Adamah); for out of it wast thou taken: for dust
H6083 thou
art, and unto dust
H6083 shalt thou return.
