The Holy Spirit may speak to our hearts, but it takes advantage of our moral education. Our moral training has a great deal to say in the formation of our conscience.Actually we have the Holy Spirit whispering to our spirit what is right and what is wrong. That can come across pretty strong, or you can just shut Him out. Your choice.![]()
Psycho's point about the dog stands. A dog is responding to the the pack member instinct, the need to obey, not a knowledge of good and evil. It is not acting morally. (It just goes to show you that Adam was not a pack animal LOL.)
Now, when a mother chimpanzee takes care of a disabled chimp, or when gorillas shelter a human child that has fallen into their enclosure, that shows empathy, which is at the heart of "loving your neighbor as yourself," aka morality. In very tiny ways, SOME animals are beginning to develop a sense of morality.
But I wouldn't say they are morally sentient yet. For example, a chimp has a sense of justice when it comes to themselves, but they will not stick up for justice on behalf of another chimp. Maybe we should send them some missionaries. LOL
