In 2016, the brown illegal immigrants were the cause of the "carnage" across our land. In 2020, it appears the "carnage" will be caused by “the radical left, the Marxists, the anarchists, the agitators, the looters, and people who in many instances have absolutely no clue what they are doing.”

...or so one Donald Trump would have you believe.

Republican Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act. Republican Harry Truman desegregated the Armed Forces.

Southern Democrats AND Republicans opposed the 1964 Civil Rights while Northern Republicans AND Democrats supported the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Vote for Trump, I don't care. Just stop the stupid argument that either party has been angelic on civil rights.
Who said I was voting for Trump?

Just one telling aspect of it:

Its pretty much entirely R people who are bemoaning that confederate slavers and racists are being removed from places of public honor.
There are so many points of contention in your statement, that we need to start another thread on this, because this is getting deep.

A thousand pardons. Your spirited defense of the Grand Old Party led me to that conclusion. Have you made your choice, Trump, Biden, West or another “3rd party“?

I think those points have been done to death by me and others in various other threads. If my non participation in yet another one looks like surrender, thats a price I'm willing to pay.

Ahhh...the debunked and desperate "party switch" myth. Keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel good.

Let us know when you finally see the idiocy and absurdity of that claim.

Let us know when you can show it to be absurd.

I'm more concerned about why they're doing it.

Why they're planning to blow up Mt. Rushmore? AFAIK, that fear only exists in Donald's imagination... which of course means his followers need to be properly afraid of it.

Although in the interest of full disclosure, the Absurdist in me likes the visual of BLM mountaineering specialists rappelling down Thomas Jefferson's forehead to shove 100 lbs. of TNT up his left nostril... wrong as it is, I'd almost like to see them try.

And blatantly wrong.

Blatantly right, actually.

See? I can make dismissive statements, too.

We already established this.

Only because you needed it established.
My point was Donald does so enjoy his militaristic lingo.

How specific do you want me to get?

Not enough to strain yourself... go easy

Last go around....I saw a similar call for "white people" to get out and protest.

They should, and they do.

Unfortunately, there's also the rioting and looting...

102832580_2081260458695704_5896643094115254272_n.jpg

Which they shouldn't, but alas, they also do.

Then the issue was that there was too many white people in pictures (aka centering whiteness). The resulting conclusion was if you were white, you should stand in between the black people and police when the bricks and bottles were thrown but when cameras were flashing and the media showed up....fade into the background.

Cool story, bro. What I heard was that whites should participate in protests because (for some unknown reason), it seemed that police are less likely to use the tear gas and rubber bullets on an integrated crowd as they would on a predominantly black one...

... alas, experience has shown that assumption to be in error. Riot police are generally speaking more than happy to gas, beat, arrest, or shoot just about anyone at these protests.

It's that sort of "things you care about don't matter but things I care about do" attitude that caused a lot of this to fizzle out after a couple of years....

I once heard it described as "a case of mind over matter -- I don't mind because you don't matter."
Of course, that was a cop speaking to a black protester...

Example Black Lives Matter protesters stop Toronto's Pride parade

Kinda weird people forgot about this stuff...but it's happening all over again, so I expect the same results.

You should probably have, you know... read your article before linking it as an example of... whatever your point may be... the "results" there were successful.

"Black Lives Matter made a series of demands that were eventually agreed to by Pride Toronto's organizers.

The demands included removing Toronto police floats and booths in Pride marches, parades and community events."

BLM made a scene at Toronto Pride, leaders from both sides met briefly, an amicable agreement was made, both sides walked away satisfied and nobody got shot in the face with a single rubber bullet. Hmmm, success... must be a Canadian thing.

I can certainly see why you wouldn't want those kind of results happening all over again.

I'm sure you support calling out racism where it exists.

Oh of course! And the struggle is SO VERY DIRE for white people! By all means, let me help you. Let us bemoan the struggle TOGETHER!

Donald's Fourth of July message

- 130,000 deaths attributed to COVID-19

- 2.7 million Americans testing positive

- 50,000+ new cases every day

- hospitals and healthcare systems in many states reaching the point of being overwhelmed

- over 40 million Americans unemployed

Listening to this President's July 4th message one would never have guessed that America was facing the above crises and concluded that her greatest problem was "left-wing" radicals pulling down statutes of slave owners!

True that. After all, if the blame for slavery, the Confederacy, and racism is going to be laid at the Democrats' feet, that means that those are our monuments "celebrating" our heritage...

... and we're taking our monuments down.

Those are definitely pictures of people without context.

Good you can realize what you're hearing is wrong. The question is, why are you still listening?

You think blocking pride parades until they cede to your demands is a good thing?

I'm waiting for Donald to start heaping praise on COVID-19 like he does every dictator he's ever met.

This is starting to feel like another front where the poor cowering white people have to fear the terrible monsters out there. When I was doing geology field work in South Dakota many, many years ago we were told there were some bars we shouldn't necessarily go into because the Sioux community still felt a bit unhappy with European-heritage white people. And considering that the Sioux in the area had been "at war" with the US even within that century it was something we were told to keep in mind.

Also, when we went out into the field there were places in some of these areas in the Black HIlls that were still very much actively used for sacred rituals. You'd be following a rock formation and stumble into a grove of trees where things were hung from the branches etc. In a very real sense we were told to ALWAYS be aware that we were essentially walking around their sacred places with rock hammers.

Speaking as scientist it is always hard for me to think about an area where I'm not allowed to "investigate" things, especially when it's outdoors and essentially wild land. But there has to be a middle way. We in the white community have a lot of history to answer for. In many ways we don't deserve the right to be there based on our actions historically. Oh sure you can trot out the "Bury my heart at wounded knee" monologue all you like, but the fact of the matter is, just like with Black Lives Matter we need to start listening and maybe, just maybe bow our heads a little in shame.

Well, don't worry, no one expects YOU to feel anything...you are struggling with the horrible racism whites endure, so you get a pass. But the rest of us who want a more just and equitable world will pick the slack until your personal torment is past.

In their attempt to broaden their base, political parties change over time and it became part of the Republican Southern Strategy to appeal to southern "whites" - where "blacks" and other visible minorities after the Civil War had been largely disenfranchised for over a century!

Given political control over a large number of smaller states in the South and Mid-West, that base allowed Republicans to "game the system" which provided them with an inordinate amount of influence in the Senate and the Electoral College beyond what their national popular vote would suggest - allowing the GOP to effectively impose its will on the majority of Americans!

Then why do you downplay and attempt to minimize racism against whites?

Don't worry. You are OK with me! I understand your struggle. I'm white too, but I muster through. I trudge along only getting 99% of what I want without even a peep. I DID get pulled over the po-po the other day for going through a yellow light. I was scared I'd be pulled out of the car and thrown to the ground and choked to death! But then I remembered "I'm white! Whew!"

Yeah, we all know your struggles. We see them every day. We'll pray for you and hope you can make it through.

Go ahead and tell me which geological group you were a part of and when you were there, because this either never happened or shouldn't have.

I'll just report you to the state geological commission and the cultural preservation society for your blatant disregard of geological practices/ethics.

You definitely have a lot to answer for.

We in the white community have a lot of history to answer for.

Not really. I don't apologize for anything I haven't done. You shouldn't either. It's false and misleading.

just maybe bow our heads a little in shame.

If you're ashamed of being white, I pity you.

They can be pretty racist.

There it is! C'mon, give it to us!

Go ahead and tell me which geological group you were a part of and when you were there, because this either never happened or shouldn't have.

It was a geology field camp. Standard issue with undergraduate geology programs.

You definitely have a lot to answer for.

I do. Because I'm self-aware. I don't whinge non-stop about how hard racism against whites is.

Not really. I don't apologize for anything I haven't done. You shouldn't either. It's false and misleading.

Then you will always be confused by world events.

If you're ashamed of being white, I pity you.

You shouldn't pity me! I'm not a thin-skinned whiner who complains about "racism against whites"! LOL.

I am MORE than aware of the benefits I get from being born white and middle class. But then I'm also prone to introspection.
