And you guys have problems with how Catholics use the bible. Just look at your responses. Putting scripture into context. looking at cultural traditions. You guys are sounding more and more Catholic as this thread goes on.

But I am Catholic. Don't you think for a moment that you can arrogate that term to yourselves only....

LOL Well, we are Christians, members of the catholic (universal) Church determined to study and show ourselves approved rightly handling the Word and desiring to not fall into the traps of rome and other false teachers/teachings.

Thanks for noticing.

Cool, which Mass do you prefer? Novus Ordo or Tridentine? Or do you prefer Byzantine liturgy? Melkite?

Ya, Rome is a nightmare of pitfalls and oubliettes so the Jesuits can bring people to the correct understanding of Christianity. Good observation.

You didn't answer my question....did I misunderstand your points? Did I misrepresent where you were coming from in the discussion and respond inappropriately?

I don't go to Mass, I see no rigid religious services presented in the Bible that in any way form a foundation to what we see in modern churches. I do get together with brothers and sisters a few times a week for corporate worship, fellowship, study and prayer. But I know how many people are uncomfortable with teh freedom we have in Christ and rush to make new rules and "Traditions" with little or no biblical foundation.

 Suuuuper. Let us all know how that works out, mmkay.
So far they have nothing but good things to say about the RCC.

quote poster: Personally I believe Roman Catholics clearly show their proper love, faith, and worship in their hearts to Jesus Christ, Lord and saviour. Doctrinal problems yes, but not where the heart is. Just my 2 cents.

quote poster: In the GT debates - it sometimes comes across that way. It's difficult to make a point without over-emphasising and even more difficult to defend a belief without constantly talking about it.

Hmmm, I am surprised that you are getting responses. Usually the Orthodox aren't all that interested in talking about Catholic stuff.
Well so far, those are the only 2 I got which is ok as I am sure they just want to keep harmony and not "stir up the pot". Peace.

Matthew 21:13 And He is saying unto them, "It has been written, the House of Me a House of prayer shall be being called'; ye yet it are making a den/cave/sphlaion <4693> of robbers.

Zech 14:21 Yes, every pot in Jerusalem and Judah shall be holiness to YHWH of hosts. Everyone who sacrifices shall come and take them and cook in them. In that day there shall no longer be a Canaanite in the House of YHWH of hosts.

As a relatively well versed Catholic, I'd say no. The RCC does not focus too much on Peter. However, I will contend that many well-meaning people when trying to defend the faith do!

The Chuirch certainly recognizes Peter's importance as Christ's vicar on earth, however, he's CHRIST's vicar. Christ is the cornerstone. The church affirms this time and again to the faithful but when trying to get over authority issues with others, I think the tendency is to retreat to MT 16:18 and say "SEE, THERE!!". Which is often an excercise in futility. Honestly, in my (limited) experience, I've never seen someone attacking the church's credibility or authority turned on their heels by this verse or line of argument.

Thanks for that well thought out post. :groupray:
