I didn't know Christ was an apostle.
The deflection, typical of RC's, is to point the discussion towards the apostles (and their pet doctrine of pete being The Man) while the Bible, and the essence of Christianity, focuses on Christ.

If you really want to push the issue, I'd simply point out the fact that paul was much more influential than pete. However, I prefer to focus on my Lord and Savior as opposed to mortals, so I won't entertain your distraction/deflection long.

Umm, that was a deflection itself. The simple point of the matter is that, of the 12 apostles chosen by Christ in the 4 gospel accounts, Cephas is the one mentioned pre-eminently. It is just as much a fact of the Gospels as Christ's evangelical mission, passion, death, and resurrection. This fact takes away nothing from Christ's mission and message.

It does take away from Christ when your denomination elevates pete more than is allowable by Scripture. Christ is our shepherd, not any pope. It has always been about Christ...not the arrogant and power hungry men building false doctrines upon mistranslations and misunderstandings.

What did Christ say when the apostles were arguing about who was the greatest?

It wasn't "Why, pete's The Man!! Ya'll best place yourself under his authority."

Peter was not the first coming to Christ. He was simply the oldest, married and all.

Cephas is given the duty and authority to act as shepherd in John 21:15-17.

Nice reading more into the text than is there.

There is no limiting the shepherding to pete. Nothing gives pete authoirty over all the Church for all time. In fact, when we see the gifts and callings listed we see no limiting to them at all. He gifts and calls according to His will...not romes will.

In context we know those passages are talking about Christ and the Gospel...not pete.

Due to the nature of who we (all believers) are in Christ, we all have power and authority.

BTW, it would be helpful if you would note what translation you're posting from.

It is the autobible bot here at CF. KJV I believe it is. I am just posting Scripture. You are the one doing the interpreting.

That's what I said.... He was above others in age. Simple isn't it?
The bible text tells us nothing of the ages of the apostles. WE assume that he is older than Andrew, his brother. What is Bartholemew's age? Or Simon the Zealot (not the poster)? Or Matthew? The bible gives us no indication of their ages.

You're right. I am. I am looking at it in context of what you have been saying, as to determine your reason for posting it and what you're trying to say.....and then responding.

Am I misunderstanding what your points have been?

You're right. But there was some kind of tradition to put the oldest first.

OOpS: did I say "tradition"??

And you guys have problems with how Catholics use the bible. Just look at your responses. Putting scripture into context. looking at cultural traditions. You guys are sounding more and more Catholic as this thread goes on.
