I am really behind the times as I haven't checked this thread in ages. However we did have an ice box I remember the ice man coming and the big tongs they used to carry the ice. My gramma had a root cellar and I started grade one(no kindergarten back then where i lived) at a one room school house very liket he picture shown. Milk and bread were delivered but my mom baked her own so we just had the mild delivered. So many memories. I think the treasure chest time capsule idea is fabulous. So many things have changed so quickly. Just think back to the 70's no mp3's or CD's cassettes and for some 8 tracks were the big thing. Jan

Jan, imagine going back all my years....we didn't have telephones, televisions and even the newspapers were at least a week behind. Our one radio had to headphones; I got one and my grandfather had the other,,the radio was only on a few hours each day. The washing was put through a hand-wound wringer attached to the wash bucket.

I could go on forever, but can't forget winding the gramaphone.

Cheers,

Jim

PS. I realy don't like long posts, but I don't know how to avoid this..my apologies

Sure do remember "This is your life." with host Ralph Edwards. We watched it faithfully even when we experienced much snow since back in the fifties hardly anyone had cable.

Does anyone remember Truth or Consequences? Wasn't that another one hosted by Ralph Edwards?

I had a Duncan YoYo too...made out of wood. I think it cost 50 cents which was no small amount then when comic books cost ten cents and I got into the movies for ten or eleven cents. I have in my hand right now a Midnight Special (also a Duncan) made out of purple plastic. We found it last year...works almost as well as the wood one did. It looks fairly new.

I found this:
Truth or Consequences was an American quiz show, originally hosted on radio by Ralph Edwards from 1940 to 1957, and later on television by Edwards himself from 1950 to 1951

I remember it better with Bob Barker...

I don't remember the hula hoop song...
but I found this..... Is this it?

Hula hoop, hula hoop
Anyone can play the hula hoop
Hula hoop, hula hoop
Anyone can play from three to a hundred and ten

(Hula, hula, hula)

From LA to New York, from Georgia to Duluth (Hula hoop)
Everyone is playing with the hula hoop (Hula hoop)
A-red ones and the green ones, yellow, white, and blue (Hula hoop)
Young and old, rich or poor, are spinning them too

(Hula, hula, hula)

Hula hoop, hula hoop
Everyone is playing with the hula hoop
Look at them spin, tryin' to win
Anyone can play from three to a hundred and ten

(Hula, hula, hula)

Oh, what fun to see them run
And to see them sway (Hula hoop)
Trying to keep the hula hoop
From, ah, slippin' away (Hula hoop)

Now if they rock when they should sway,
It would fall to the ground (Hula hoop)
Then again, once again
The hoop spins around and 'round

(Hula, hula, hula)

Hula hoop, hula hoop
Everyone is playing with the hula hoop
Look at them spin, tryin' to win
Anyone can play from three to a hundred and ten

(Hula, hula, hula)

Hula hoop, hula hoop
Everyone is playing with the hula hoop
Look at them spin, tryin' to win
Anyone can play from three to a hundred and ten

(Hula, hula, hula, hula, hula)
