I remember when the Beatles first came out...I wasn't sure if I liked them or not, lol.

In the end, I probably listened to them just a much as anything else...then moved on.

Everything changed when I found the Lord! I couldn't get enough of Him, and so listened to Christian radio all day. I met Dr. J Vernon McGee on the "Bible Bus" and loved to hear him preach. This was the 70's, but I still listen to some of his re-broadcasts today. Such a godly man!
You were blessed to find the Lord at such an early age.. I wandered in the desert for almost 40 years before He found me.. *smile*

I remember 78s, 45s etc too. My first record (an odd one for a child really, but I enjoyed it) was South Pacific. I loved "Some Enchanted Evening" and "Younger Than Springtime am I". I was a romantic even then. I hate to say this, especially as a Brit, but I was never very keen on the Beatles. My sixties favourites were the Batchelors, motown artistes and Cliff (mainly because of his Christian witness). I was in my early teens when he was saved, and it made quite an impression on me.

I appreciate what you have written...
though I was crazy about the Beatles....until their music seemed to change...

My sister and I had bought tickets to see them at Cobo Hall in Detroit.... my sister decided not to go...
MY MOM TOOK HER PLACE!!!!! I did not see it as - if she did not go with me I would not have gone...
All I could think about were my day dreams about the Beatles were shot... not one of them would look at me if I was with my mother...:)

Beatles.jpg

Well, we arrived and Mom and I took our seats about a million miles away from the stage. All I could see were the backs of all the people ahead of me.

We went, I didn't meet or even see the Beatles,, no one fell in love with me, and we left...

They never noticed me, I never saw them...and I don't even think I heard them because of all the screaming - including me, shy Mickey in my pretty red jumper and white blouse, dark brown curly hair, and thick crooked glasses...but I was 12 and I got caught up in the frenzy of the moment and could day dream .....
and almost saw the Beatles.
At least we were in the same building...

and I still have the ticket stubs.....

I wasn't that young, Glenda. I was 19 when I got saved, and early 20's when I began listening to Dr. McGee. I had to learn so much, no knowledge of the OT, almost nothing of the NT.

I used to take my Bible and just hold it and pray for God to teach it to me. I still do this! I still feel like I have so much to learn.

Aren't you so glad that God found both of us? Don't you just feel so blessed?

J. Vernon McGee was one of the most powerful preachers of all time, and I too, still listen to the rebroadcasts on the Christian radio..every night...Through the Bible series.

On the Beatles, my best man was a personal friend to them when they were just kiddies in Liverpool, where he lived.

Cheers,

Jim

Oh, Jim, thank you! So I'm not alone in loving this dear Bible teacher. I was so hungry back then, and he taught so very well. I'm so glad that they still broadcast him.

As for the Beatles, I just lost interest...

Mickey, your post made me smile. I could just see you in your red jumper----way, way, way back there, screaming and wishing wistfully that they would just notice you...

I was a true blue Beatlemaniac. I still feel that they were an exceptionally talented bunch of fellas. Yes their music did become influenced by the drug culture but I still love the simple songs like "I'll follow the sun" and "Your mother should know" and I still listen to them. I was excited that Phil Keaggy who I think sounded like Paul McCartney when he (phil) first started recording got to perform at Linda McCartney's sisters wedding. I always prayed for the Beatles and Hoped that they would turn to the Lord. I kind of lost heart when George my favourite turned to his meditation and Krisha stuff. I also loved Cliff Richard in the early days. Jan

I still remember the 1st two Beatle songs I ever heard on a jukebox in the winter of 1963-1964, "I Saw Her Standing There" and "I Wanna Hold Your Hand".

I've listened to J.Vernon McGee off and on, on the radio since the early 1970's I think. You can also go to http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/thru_the_bible_with_jvernon_mcgee/Archives.asp and listen to some of his archived broadcasts on your computer.

I was saved in 1971 through listening to Christian radio programs like "Hermano Pablo" (Paul Finkenbinder), John D. Jess' program, and Kathryn Kuhlman's 15 min. daily radio program, Haven of Rest (remember "4 bells and all is well"?), Bill Pearce's "Nightsounds" program (which is still on), and "Unshackled", from "The Old Garden Mission" in Chicago to mention a few. Anyone else remember those?

Dr. McGee's Through the Bible series is still broadcast on many Christian stations on a daily basis, even though he has been with the Lord many years now. He was by far one of the best. You might also remember Charles E. Fuller, who broadcast, with his wife, for many years, and was instrumental in leading the late Jerry Falwell to the Lord and ministry.

These two programs have been around "forever" it seems. Bill Pearce started out of the Moody Bible Institute's radio programming. He takes a little getting used to with his voice and slow talking, but he certainly has a message for all. Unshackled has very touching stories about lifetime events, and is well worth listening to. They became a part of many a sermon over the years. Thanks, Jim, for bringing them back to memory.

Cheers,

Jim

I still listen to Vernon McGee and Bill Pearce often on the radio, and Bill always plays really nice, non-modern Christian music in between his devotional comments of course. We have 2-3 remastered CD's of "16 Singing Men", the all-male singing group Pearce sang in back in the mid-1900's. Wow, isn't it odd to refer to the years that made up most of our lives as "mid-1900's"? I guess we are getting old aren't we?

I remember the name of the show Back to the Bible but can't recall what it was like. My kids still love the Adventures in Odyssey series from Focus on the Family (they are adults) and I always loved Dr. Dobsons show when I could listen to it. I know they are available online anytime. The Blue Letter Bible offers teaching by many different teachers such as the original Bible Answer Man who is now with the Lord. (Can't remember his name at the moment)Jan

I liked the orig. 1970's, Back To The Bible radio program a lot too. It's still on the air, but the host and teacher now is Woodrow Kroll, who is pretty good too, but the format is different of course.

If you mean the predecessor to Hank Hanegraaff's Bible Answer Man show, that was Walter Martin, who was an expert on the cults, although slightly abrasive in his confrontational style. He knew his stuff though. :)
