No, I mean that Israel is unlikely to be the Promised Land, in that this is said to be something God is said to have promised to a certain group of people, and yet that there exists at all any sort of deity is unlikely and unproven.

But if there's some other meaning to the phrase 'Promised Land' you're referencing, I don't know.
Hubba-bubba ...

How hard is my question, pj?

Is Israel the Promised Land or not?

I'm confused by your lack of stance.

Let's try this:

Is Guam an island in the Indian Ocean?

Are Keebler crackers a sandwich spread?

Do two plus five equal thirteen?

Is Israel the Promised Land?

I have a feeling my question has caught you off-guard.

(At least I hope so, otherwise ... well ... nevermind.)

The existence of any deity, either specifically an apparently anthropomorphic one which communicated something to a certain group of people at a certain time or otherwise is unlikely and unproven.

But if there's some other meaning to the phrase 'Promised Land' which has nothing to do with God or religion, I don't know.

Fair enough ... it looks like an honest answer to an honest question.

I find it interesting though that I ask if Israel is the Promised Land, and immediately you seem to have visions of a deity.

Which, of course, is exactly what I expected -- and that's good! I'm glad you did.

Now ... one more question, and I promise I'll drop the inquisition; I won't even respond to your answer, of which I am curious to know what you think:

Is the United States the Great Satan?

Maybe he's thinking of the Mormons who think the garden of Eden is in Jefferson, MO.

Nope -- just an early form of "manifest destiny."

Do you feel you're qualified to use that term, if you're unwilling to answer a simple question about Israel or the United States?

Or maybe my question was simple enough and in no need of clarification.

(I could be wrong though; qv my movie file.)

Who said I was unwilling?

Are you paying attention to who you're talking to?

Oh, most definitely. Because Muslims referencing the Quran SAYS IT....THAT SETTLES IT.

Is the United States the Great Satan?

Well, if some here believe that science is the great satan, and the US is the most scientifically advanced country in the planet, perhaps you have your answer...

In other words, you want me to acquiesce to your science, agree that the universe came into existence scientifically, and that a literal Genesis 1 is wrong -- otherwise I'm anti-science?

That's not going to happen; and if it entails that I'm labeled "anti-science" because of it, then so be it.

(This sounds like a trial run for the Tribulation period.)
I'd love the chance to point out the multiple errors in a literal Gen 1 if you would like to go through it sometime...

Science and faith were never meant to be separated - except for One like God, who is all-knowing (omniSCIENCE.) Science is Latin for knowledge. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. So, an example of science (knowledge) would be that you see that you have five fingers on each hand. Faith would be hoping that your boss will pay you on Friday, and believing it even though you have no proof s/he will do so. For creatures that are not omniscient, faith fills the holes in one's science (knowledge.) They are two sides of the same coin.

They are not two sides of the same coin. They aren't even the same currency. Faith only fills the holes for people that need holes filled. Those that want knowledge do not cram unverifiable nonsense into the gaps in that knowledge. Instead they seek the knowledge to fill those gaps.

If for no other reason, you don't stuff faith into holes because it might get confused with actual knowledge. Then you are left with one messy coin...

The parting of the Red Sea, Jesus' resurrection, the burning bush, Daniel's three friends in the furnace ...

You know -- basic Sunday school lessons that kids should learn.

Right after their grammar lesson where they learn the definition of the word "verifiable"...

So, how many scientific laboratory experiments have you conducted in your life? Or, do you just take scientists at their face-value? The latter is the most dangerous; if you cannot reproduce the same experiments as the scientist telling you what truth is, then you are as handicap as the layman. You are held hostage at the scientists of choice.

Is that the best you can do?

When you go to the doctor to get your cholesterol checked, do you believe what the lab comes back with, or do you draw your own blood and retest it on your own to verify?

No, its not the best I can do.

I would draw my own blood and retest it to verify it (because I can actually do that with my "science," or knowledge.

You do realize scientists are people too, right?

Really?

So you are a medical professional and you have your own lab to test your own blood and actually run the blood through the machine yourself? Almost forgot, you know how to calibrate and service the machine as well?

No, I am not a "medical professional." But I do know how to test my own blood, and actually run it through a machine myself. Being a physicist affords you incredible opportunities.
