Great, just great. So you're saying I'm stuck with either an immoral group of progressive hippies with no sense of faith or a dishonest bunch of faux-Christian big business tychoons who want to turn my country into a third world country with the 1% running the show?

Wow, when did this happen?

It can stomp on us with its left foot, or it can stomp on us with its right foot. Either way, it's the same monster, and we're stomped on just the same.

Bring back capitalism.

I agree. But I tend not to be optimistic that that will ever be allowed to happen in the long run. As time progresses, the more power that the powerful have, the more power that they are able to take, and the more power that they will take. The world gets smaller every year, and the smaller the world is, the more easily it is controlled. I don't mean to sound apocalyptic or like a conspiracy theorist, but reality of how the world works nowadays is what it is.

I totally agree. Nobody wants it anymore. People are far to concerned with who is marrying who to look at the massive and escalating pillage of individual rights.

As much as I love being American, I often have to remind myself that that is not as important as I'd like it to be. I know that the reality is that, as various political philosophers have stated, the days of the nation state are drawing to a close. Whether or not it ushers in the Antichrist, it is only a matter of time before American sovereignty (as well as that of other nations) is given up for something more global. I don't know how far down the road that is, but I know it's on the table. I know that arguments about which political party is ruining the country are more or less meaningless. There are certainly those who love freedom, but the power is in the hands of those who couldn't care any less about it. I know that all of that is a reality, but it's a reality that I really don't want to recognize as being right in front of my face.

I firmly believe that "advances" in sexual redefinitions will become much more frequent and much more commonplace. So many dynamics changed after the industrial revolution, and this debate about marriage is only one of its many fruits. All in all, I become less confident that all the advances in our standard of living and from the technological advances since the industrial revolution are really all that beneficial for us. It is my belief that these advances are the direct cause of the dysfunction that we see in the world today. We've done nothing to help cure our disease. If anything, we've made ourselves even worse off than we were before.

Out of control capitalism is no more healthy than communism. Before unions and the rise of workers standing up for themselves as well as some government regulations, it was Oliver Twist....I wish we had more co-op run companies and less CEO-driven greed-infested outsourcers who will betray the American worker and use him at the drop of a hat. Most companies nowdays are more like "The Company" in the movie Alien (1979) than the "good ole days"

Bring back capitalism.

Im not opposed to unions, but as someone who has 1) been real poor, 2) Worked in harsh conditions, and 3) tried to start my own business, most regulations do more harm then good.

Our capitalism has always been the crony type. If that is what you mean by out of control then I totally agree,

Well, not all regulations are good ones. Some are silly, some are really important. The Democrats would regulate your toilet experience if they could and if the GOP had their way, we'd be dumping toxic waste into our State parks and car batteries into our lakes. I'm glad the "muck-rakers" came around back in the early twentieth century and opened up our eyes to the need for regulation...but I also think it can go too far and, in my state (CA), it has. But, with the horrendous air quality is here in central California (the worst in the U.S.!), I can only imagine what it'd be like without regulations. My wife is from the Philippines. Try driving in Manila with the windows down if you want to see the lovely air without smogging cars! gasp.....

Pollution isnt a matter of regulation, its a matter of property rights. There certainly are plenty of regulation free, philosophical arguments for airspace being part of property.

Air pollution levels are regulated by the state of California. I'm glad. I like breathing. :p

A long, long time ago. Andrew Jackson was already fighting the big bankers in the 1820's.

Now the parties pretend to differ on "issues" ( the ones they allow or tell the media to shout at all of us) while actually working together to pretend to represent us. They are not different, but wish us to believe that they are.

The logical conclusion of of capitalism is that one man ultimately owns everything. "There can be only one." Capitalists - who aim at being rich, and generally impoverish others in the process - that is how being really rich works - want us to believe that there is only one alternative - socialism. This is false. See distributism, for example.
Capitalists do, in fact, control most of the world. Desiring to "bring it back" means desiring more of such central control - by businessmen as opposed to government men under socialism.

I feel the same and agree 100%. For me, the more my eyes are opened of this mess, the rosy picture I had of our country darkened up a few years ago.

Wouldn't it be hilarious, in the end, to find out the Dems and Republicans are actually one cabal, an almost X-Files secret shadow group, who pretend to be at each other's throats in public but behind close doors eat steaks and baked potatoes together! LOL....

GOP: "Ok, you need to ratchet up the pro-gay stuff so we can pretend to be the moral compass of the nation!"

DEM: "Gotcha, but you guys need to sabre-rattle a little and act tough with Syria and claim you'd invade Iran so we can counter"

GOP: "You guys threaten to raise taxes, we'll claim it's an issue of liberty to help the 1% since you guys also are the 1% anyway. And bring up abortion again. We all know it'll be legal for another 500 years. But it keeps our folks happy thinking we'll overturn it. Well, gotta run. Got Church tomorrow. See you fellas at the strip club, Wednesday night?"

LOL

There was an old episode of The Outer Limts. Not sure if you've watched it. Episode was called "The Architects of Fear." Robert Culp is surgically turned into a hideous alien and given futuristic technology to attack Earth. Why? Because the government wants the people to come together, hostile nations to become temporary allies (like the Soviets and Americans against the Nazis) and extend olive branches to fight a common foe.

I sometimes wonder if each side creates the non-existent "foe" to trade off power control? What a burn that would be....
