Proverbs 15:

Proverbs 15:

The treasury of God.
....
iu
In thinking about the 16th verse, what comes to mind is that "little" or what may seem like "little" at first glance, in human terms and with the finite-ness of human vision and understanding, is truly "enough", when there is the "fear of the Lord". For the "fear of the Lord", indicates that someone is "wise", as it states here:

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." ~Pro 9:10

And in that wisdom (the fear of the Lord), this wise one knows that this is true:

"My grace is sufficient for thee" ~II Corinthians 12:9

"Sufficient" = "enough".

This verse also is God's promise, that along with His "sufficiency" (provision-both physically and spiritually) for us, there is also peace.

And that alone, is of "great price". You could say that it's absolutely "priceless"; a "treasure", in fact.

And it is.

Straight from God's own Treasure Chest.

And it's available to each of us.

How Priceless is THAT??!!!.

This bears repeating.

Amen.

Proverbs 15:19" The way of the sluggard is as a hedge of thorns; But the path of the upright is made a highway."

Men who are sluggard are also pusillanimous due to the fact they have no courage to confront their adversities( symbolized by a thorny bush). But those who confront their issues today and not tomorrow will smooth out their adversities

13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
15 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.
16 Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.
17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith. - Proverbs 15

I heard a missionary say that they have a song in Mexico that went, "Jesus in the family... What a happy home!"
Yes proverbs 15 as you mentioned helps to show that conflict is more likely to occur when you are with people who are wealthy and prepare a large feast. On the other hand having herbs allows you to focus your attention on other things especially when conflict arises.

Hi Kristen. I love all of Proverbs too, however, today we're on Proverbs 20, which corresponds with today's date of 4/20. (((hug)))

Edit: I apologize Kristen. Forgive my own error. We're on Proverbs 15. And the point of it all is to delve into Proverbs at all. God bless you sister, and may the reading of these chapters in Proverbs bless you in extraordinary ways as you delight God's very heart for reading His chapters of wisdom.

Yes well proverbs 20 talks a lot about how a King's countenance can quickly be appraised or diminished based upon the look in his eyes and what he stands for.

Proverbs 15:

A cheerful heart.
HEART JOYFUL flower.jpg

God's precious gift of a cheerful, joyful heart, is only possible through Him, because it generates from the joy that He pours into us (His joy).

And a cheerful heart not only brings a smile from the inside, out for those who are experiencing the "joy of the Lord", but for those who are downcast as well, because it is a "ministry".

How precious is THAT??!!

Proverbs 15:

Delighting God.

How precious is THAT, to DELIGHT God's very heart? Is there anything AT ALL that is more DELIGHTFUL than to bring a smile to God's heart??!!

Precious.

When is the last time we did something just to delight God's heart?

Proverbs 15:
God provides for the widow.

"The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow." ~Pr 15:25

God will surely provide for the widow, and "establish her borders". As it is written in Isaiah, He will establish her foundations with fair stones.

"O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, andnot comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires. And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones. And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children. In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee." ~Isa 54:11-14

Proverbs 15:

Crumbling foundations.
AKA: Crumbling houses.
AKA: Sudden destruction.

"The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow." ~Pr 15:25

This verse indicates that God's protection surrounds the righteous, and this widow represents the righteous. He preserves them AND their dwellings, quite literally.

However, for the proud, which is the epitome of evil, He destroys not only their dwelling, but them as well.

It is written that someone who remains stiff-necked (stubborn) will suffer sudden destruction, and it will be without remedy.

Tragic.

"He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy." ~Pr 29:1

Proverbs 15:

Wisdom.

Wisdom = the "fear of the Lord". It means a "Godly" FEAR, not a fleshly "fear" or terror or forboding. The bottom line, is that we CAN NOT love God WITHOUT it. For it is written that the "fear of the Lord" is the BEGINNING of "wisdom". What this is clearly saying is that it is the foolish who do NOT fear the Lord, and that THAT is why they are foolish, for they are bereft of "wisdom".

And they do not even SEEK it.

How tragic.

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." ~Pr 9:10

"The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things" (Pro 15:28 KJV).

The Word of God is our "necessary food" for without it we would starve spiritually, just as we do physically when we refuse to eat. Yet, how many folks do we know that just don't like to eat? We rarely miss our three squares a day, but don't we sometimes go weeks, if not months, at a time failing to read our Bible?

Why do we need to read and study God's love letter to man? Peter answers that, maybe he is meditating on the proverb we are considering today, "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear" (1Pe 3:15 KJV). As one song says, "People Need the Lord," and we are blessed to have a part in bringing to them the Lord, but we need to know how to answer their reasonable questions.

There are plenty of cultists out there that are fully trained by their leaders to give answers to people looking for answers--but those answers are "damnable heresies" that unfortunately, make sense to the unsaved man. The only way that a man can believe that Jesus and Satan are brothers is the absence of the Holy Spirit in the life of that unsaved person. When they come to the Lord, the Holy Spirit awakens their understanding to the point where they can see that such a teaching can only come from hell, as well as any idea that God elects man to reprobation giving them no say in the matter but punishing them anyway.

Lord God, we have all wisdom at our fingertips and the promise of the "mind of Christ" as we devour Your Word as though it were our "necessary food." Make us more like You every day and use us as we make ourselves available, and dependable. Amen!
