less wordy, Yes

More Succinct?? Definitely not, since only 3 or 4 people were familiar with the word....

Regardless of your opinion and chris' opinion of the word.. The word offends people, that has been made clear over and over and over and over and over ... and then in a new thread .. and over and over and over...

I would like to go around and label a lot of people who share the road with me a Moron, cuase it is a less wordy succinct word, for most of the drivers on the road...

However I don't do that, cuase it's offensive..

Okay.. I do that, but in the safety of my locked car

If you jump on the internet and throw out labels you have to deal w/ the replies... fact of life

If we go around censuring ourselves whenever someone says they are offended we get into calling dumb students "exceptional" and bums "vocationally challenged". Just because someone takes offense at a word which applies to them doesn't necessarily mean there is anything wrong with the word used. Maybe those offended need to look at their relationship with the word to see where their problem lies instead of blaming the person who brought it up.

Here is my post from the other thread:

"Yeah I have to say, I read the old one, and even after a polite poster pointed out that men cheat too, he still wanted to call husband's names who stay with their cheating wives. However, here I am, because it seems that the OP has been hurt by this sort of behavior and perhaps, Chris, you are a new Christian? Because I rememer you mentioning on another thread that next time you are going to do it God's way, with no sex, good for you.

So now I am here to answer the question about men and their cheating wives.

My husband stayed with me after I had an affair because he loved me and he felt that we would make a good long standing pair, we had a lot in common. It was his choice whether or not he wanted to reconcile, we were separated at the time, and he thought about it for a while. I was pregnant, I should mention, by the other man. My husband decided that he wanted to make it work, he had to talk me into it even, and I have since learned some things about his character that I can respect.

He reminds me of Nathanael from John 1:47, "Here is a true Israelist, in whom there is nothing false." He is a true man who is the type of person you meet, and after getting to know him you find that he wasn't pretending at first impression, he is true through and through.

I believe that his choice to reconcile with me, even when I did not want it, and I did not know that it was the better choice, is the best way he has shown me what true love is.

Ephesians 5:25-28 "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain of wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself."

Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.... hmm. Let's analyze this. Christ, allowed himself to die for a bunch of people that ridiculed him and did not obey his commands. They did not respect him. My husband acted just like Christ did. That is why I believe that Christ would have us forgive cheating spouses, rather than use one verse as a cop out. I would not have blamed my husband for divorcing me, in fact at that time I wished he would, but he was alble to bring me back to Christianity by showing me what God is really like in a prime example of forgiveness."

Now tell me. Why does MY husband deserve a label? He acts like Christ and we call him a cuckold. Personally I'll call the ones who run out on their family because their wife cheated, leaving their kids out in the cold cuckolds. Because I think they're lame. Its offensive because a husband whose wife cheated on him DOES NOT DESERVE A LABEL it is not his fault. And if he stays and loves his wife then I think he deserves a better label, like honest forgiving and Christ like.

Wrong thread dude!!!

And I have a question.... when Jesus brought Mary Magdalene into the fold, how did he treat her? Were her sins washed away? As far as the east is from the west? He didn't run around calling her a prostitute as though it was a current event. I am so glad God forgives sin and doesn't label us.

No..right thread. I call it Christmas because it is Christmas. A cuckold is a cuckold. black is black and white is white. To be offended because someone uses correct terminology is rather hypersensitive, don't you think? I mean what are we to do? Walk around on glass because someone might prefer the candy coated kind of truth over the plain truth?? To be so sensitive to the facts is only an indicator of personal insecurity. Inner strength and secrity in one's beliefs, politics, religion, or whatever wouold not pitch a fit at a simople word, even if it describes them. A secure person would just let it slide. "No biggy. The truth is the truth." If one cannot accept the truth in direct terms, then perhaps the "offended party" needs to do some soul searching to find out why he is getting up in arms about a word that accurately describes his position.

But I do agree with the forgiveness part. Is a cuckold still a cuckold when his wife changes her ways and becomes faithful?????

Thank you, we shouldn't have to stop using a word simply because someone thinks so even though that word was not used in an offensive context.
I can think of only two people that stand out on this thread vehemently demanding that the word not be used anymore because I think they have some serious "guilt" issues.

Again, as for "cuckold"-why would anyone find that term offensive?

Main Entry: cuck·old
Pronunciation: 'k&-k&ld, -(")kOld
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English cokewold
: a man whose wife is unfaithful
- cuckold transitive verb

Websters

Andrew Parker-Bowles was a cuckold because his wife Camilla was cheating on him. Pardon my laughter, if one is offended by the term cuckold then one has really thin skin ^_^

My two cents.

yep! what about other terms that people find offensive then? Such as *******, for an illegitmite child, ***** for female dog... (I'm sure the filter will nail me here.) they are truthful terms, used properly. no offense should be taken.

Edit.... Man, was I right about the filter. ^_^

How many times does 4jacks have to tell you that there is no affair in his past present or future?

How many times do I need to tell you that just because its in my past does not make me any less of a new creation? You have some serious respect issues. I am a human being and a child of God and HE forgives me. If my past makes me less of a person, what does your past say about you? I am surely not impressed, sorry, you left your girlfriend unmarried and with two of your children.

The "B" word for a female dog is used often in dogging circles. When used as an insult it becomes offensive and gains a totaly different meaning. The other "B" word is also used with a different meaning and is used as an insult. In context, with the correct meaning, people still get offended because they are too sensitive. To p-ansy. And yes, the longer "B" word applies to me when used in context with the correct definition, but I am not going to cry about it. it is true, and it is of none of my doing . I didn't cause it, just as a man whose wife has chosen to give her body to another man is a cuckold. It is non of his own doing, but it is true.

Exactly. I think in this thread the offendees are guilty of making the cuckold, and the term brings to light guilt and bad feelings and memories, and the person does not like to be reminded, and so feels that the world should tip toe around the truth so as to help her forget...

The Christmas analogy is way off, becuase there is no other more polite name for the holiday

Look, it's like this, I am slim guy. By all definitions. Let's suppose that you came up to me and Said, "Hey, You're a skinny guy, blah blah blah" *we're talking about weight lifting so it kinda fits in the conversation*

Then I was to politely say. "Please don't call me skinny, just say i'm slender or slim"

Then You continued to call me "Skinny" for a couple weeks, often see'ing how many time you can fit the word into a sentence.

I'm not going to be upset with you, becuase you used the word skinny. I'm going to be upset with you becuase your acting like a jerk. *This is all hypothetical, i'm not calling GQ a jerk*

Everyone is assuming that People are upset becuase of the Mystery word of the Day. That is pretty far from the truth. People are upset becuase of the actions and attitude of "Well I don't care who I offend, I can say anything I want"

By the Way, working in Retail I have said "Merry Christmas" to a LOT of people. Over the Years, I have had several who have something along the lines of "I do not celebrate Christmas" ... I simply moved on to "Well, Have a Great New Year" ... I did not turn around and Batter "MERRY CHRISTMAS" down their throat...

You're right, I no longer have a valid opinion. What was I thinking?

I am not the only one who has offense to this word, and not just 4jacks either, but they just don't want to post on the thread and I see why. Oh well!

I really cain't understand why folks are focusin so much on the precieved negative sides of the word cuckold.... I mean hello!! Does this not say more about the positive side of the man that is still wit his wife?? I take my hat off to a feller who can endure an overcome sumthin as tragic as that. I find the word to be a positive not a negative, an I agree, you call the kettle black for cryin out loud. This whole politically correct stupidity is jes that stupidity, wanna know why? Cause it never stops, you'll never make everbody happy an you'll always have someone bent at some word, I am bent at callin idiots - challenged... their not challenged, their idiots! Folks have GOT to git their feelins off of their shirt sleeves an not worry bout wether er not the OP is obssed wit the use of the word. Really though... good grief, to 'lable' a man a cuckold is to give em high honor in my book, there are many men, jes like the OP was talkin bout who would jump ship, I say good job to the cuckold whoever he may be.
