People are upset becuase of the actions and attitude of "Well I don't care who I offend, I can say anything I want"

Patrick,

There are two sides to every story. From our perspective those that are being offended are being hyper-sensitive. When I get offended I take responsibility for it. I can't control what other people say, but I can control my reaction to what others say. I can choose to be offended or not.

No you can not. Being offended is a Feeling... Like Being Sad or Being Happy.

You can choose what you do about it when you are offended, but you can not choose to be NOT offended.

Personally I think 3 months ago, when all this started, those who were offended CHOOSE to be civil about things...

But after three months of the cuck, things have gotten a little less civil and a lot more entertaining.

And please don't call us Hyper-Sensitive, I take offense to that

That last part was a joke!

Really? I think I can speak for myself Patrick. If someone comes up to me and calls me a slew of bad names then I do have the choice to be offended or I have the choice to ignore it and move on.

You can choose what you do about it when you are offended, but you can not choose to be NOT offended.

Of course you can. I'm not saying that it is easy not to chose to be offended, but the choice is still there.

Sure and I can tell you that the sky is Orange with Yellow Poka Dots... That doesn't mean I'm right. (unless the weather is really odd)

I know what you mean, but you are mistaken about the word. What I said above still applys. You can not choose to NOT be offended, you can only choose what you do when you are offended.

If someone gives you a Chia Pet for Christmas, you can not Choose to be Happy. Your going feel ripped off and robbed. Your going feel like shoving that (hole in the ground)'ing Chia Pet down the throat of whoever gave it to you.

But you can CHOOSE to Smile and Say... "OH THANKS, just what I've always wanted"

I still know what you meant though

Perhaps you should ask your questions in the Men's Corner ;)

As for "cuckold"-why do some find that term offensive?

Main Entry: cuck·old
Pronunciation: 'k&-k&ld, -(")kOld
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English cokewold
: a man whose wife is unfaithful
- cuckold transitive verb

Yeah, I didn't get why it was offensive either. Especially since most had to look it up! Just comments from a latecomer...

We need a poll on how many people have actually heard of this word!!! :)
I've heard of it! And here's some more history too. If you make the sign of the "horns" on your head, that's calling a man a cuckold. It doesn't mean anything in the US but I hear if you do it in Spain or Italy it's worse that "shooting the bird" by about a factor of ten. So now you know, and knowing's half the battle.

Not here it ain't! Just don't go flying to europe and "horning" anyone and you're good to go. ;) What's cool to us or obsolete (which I think cuckold mostly is in the US) can be *highly* offensive in another country or culture. Case in point. The "thumbsup" sign that a lot of us find so neat can be very offensive in other cultures...don't remember which tho. And even showing the bottoms of one's feet is a grand insult in the middle east as any soldier can tell you. (I'm not a soldier, but lots have told me this.)

And the point is.....what's offensive and what's not is a highly subjective thing. Let's try this. Next time we're out and about and meet someone, just casually ask them if they are offended by the word "cuckold" and see what the results are. In my lexicon the worst it would be is "mildly amusing" but to each his/her own! Ok, lecture ends now.

Never use the "OK sign" in Germany. IIRC, to Germans it means that you are calling them an assh0le (that will probably be filtered out).
