Well I know he even carries the epitaphio at his church in LA. But not sure if he was ever received into the church.
He's pro-gay. That makes him OINO. Orthodox in name only! LOL. OINO!
Or one could say "Nominally Orthodox" and avoid making a sound akin to the mating cry of a javelina.![]()
It falls on their bishop. One can complain that Goarch has not been as proactive about this as, say, the Church of Greece, the MP, ROCOR or Antioch.
I know that, but it doesn't happen, that's my point. the only time I ever see bishops move quickly and decisively is when there's a legal issue and possible lawsuits/jailtime is looming on the horizon.
I don't think somebody supporting gay marriage turns them into "Orthodox in name only", though it certainly is perhaps what JM calls "liberalism". There is also some nuance here before getting into whether it's something a good Orthodox (which is a different question) can support - for instance, are they just talking about legal rights, or are they making a moral claim about homosexual intercourse? I don't know if the former is de fide.
Are the brands of "Traditional" and "Conservative" required to be Orthodox or be right? I mean, you can always find somebody more hardcore than what you're seeing. And it's always easy to make more rules and get rid of people who disagree. There are people who try to turn their parishes into monastic fantasy camp.sadly I think there is truth to it. I hear the stories since going to a GOARCH church, not about our church, but other ones in GOARCH. I wonder if I made a mistake switching to GOARCH from ROCOR, for all the talk of the ethnic factor in ROCOR, they seem way more Traditional, and Conservative, this is just a observation after attending both GOARCH, and ROCOR.
P.S. - I love most the folks in my GOARCH, and respect the priest as a standup Orthodox priest, I just think GOARCH seem less traditional, and more relaxed. Plus a lot scandals here in the states seem to be amongst some in OCA, and the Greek parishes/Churches.
The latter - making claims about the morality of homosexual intercourse - would certainly put somebody on shaky grounds as somebody in dissent about a doctrine, but that is still far from being Orthodox in name only. So the former - supporting some legal rights - is even farther from that, and I don't see where it, by necessity, is incompatible with Orthodox doctrine, since it does not, by necessity, make moral claims contrary to the received teachings of the Orthodox faith.Nope. They're OUTTA HERE!! LOL!
Like sodomy? We're giving you the boot!!

Are you okay? You're worrying about the trade from ROCOR to GOARCH because you deem one to not be "Traditional" or "Conservative", which is about branding and not the gospel of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ.
"Conservative" and "Traditional" are branding. Have fun, though. But I would just say that switching from ROCOR to GOARCH isn't a mistake unless you don't like Greek. Nor is the opposite.
