COVID-19 linked to 'significant' drop in intelligence

I was in a clinic with my S.O. last week and we both decided to watch Mike Judge's Idiocracy for laughs to pass the time. The watch nurse comes in and he tells us "BTW, that movie isn't fiction... that's really happening".

It's a bit scary how that movie went from comedy to documentary.

Yeah... though I don't think its happening so much due to people actually becoming dumber in terms of natural selection so much as the corrosive effects of neoliberal capitalism and mass media (and Judge himself has said he's ambivalent as to whether it is "nature or nurture").

BTW, I didn't see Idiocracy until about six years after it came out in theaters. Rumor is that it was so offensive to corporate sensibilities that 20th Century Fox chose to promote or advertise its release, and only did so at because of contractual obligations. It's a film they seem to have intentionally buried.

Sounds like a benefit to me.. like being permanently tipsy.

There are actually people who, for some reason, have their gut biome messed up in such a way that if they eat bread or other food rich in carbohydrates, the bacteria in their stomach turn that into alcohol.

It's a horrible disease and those people suffer for their whole life.
