  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't like the mini pill, I looked up how it works on the net and this is part of what it says:

Quote:
The lining of the uterus is also affected in a way that prevents fertilized eggs from implanting into the wall of the uterus.

To me this is still killing a baby, because my actions (taking the pill) are causing the fertilized egg (my baby) to die.

Well I just thought I would share this, I was shocked when I found out that the mini pill still allowed conception to occur.

Why do you use the term "mini pill?" We generally just say, "the pill." This refers to oral contraceptives that work through the intake of estrogen. There are many brands, and aside from strength of the dosage they are virtually the same.

Some girls take the pill for various reasons, including to alleviate painful menstrual cycles, resolution of hormone-induced acne, elimination of migraines/headaches, and, of course, to prevent pregnancy.

It is only this last use that concerns us morally. Any use at all of the pill should cause some concern for long-term effects, since it has been one of the most dangerous medications that remains in popular usage. However, this last use, for pregnancy prevention, is problematic.

Evidence points to the reality that eggs are not only being fertilized while women are on the pill, but then they are expelled from the body. This should concern all of us.

Hi, not on the pill, but if that's the case, your last para, then I think that would be common knowledge, and many Christians take birth control and it would be made common knowledge.

So, what I'm saying is I don't know about your evidence.

UUHH now suicide is killing of yourself. It is clearly stated thou shall not kill. But this is a whole different topic. Contraception on the other hand is not killing anyone.

Well, killing is one thing, and murder is another, or some Christian proponents of the death penalty claim.
The irony here being many European countries think execution is barbaric, yet some support assisted suicide, based on a humanist mind set.
So what do the scriptures really mean when it says thou shall not kill? And remember Joshua had received that commandment prior to the slaughter of Jericho.

It's not common knowledge, but it's more common than you think. I'm sure someone will post some links at some point.

But, imo, this is not the issue.

is it true that if the Orthodox calendar is followed strictly, there are only 50 days in the year on which a couple may have intercourse (unless advised otherwise by their pastor)? I imagine that this would be a highly effective form of natural birth control.

I think I read this somewhere, if i'm wrong, then :sorry:

Here is a link to a calendar that shows the days for this year. It's over half of the year. Plus if you throw in preparation for communion this year one could theoretically fast about 270 days out of 365.

We try our best, and we generally don't talk about it, except on theology boards. ;)

Only 50 days (allotted a year by men) for ~rolling in the hay~ with your spouse? ^_^

That sounded a bit strict^_^

The process of thinking beforehand is enough to put out the burning for any of it altogether^_^

So, its better to marry then to burn.

But its better to burn in your marraige then to take a pill?

Peace

So because you are against contraception you would rather just obstain from the sexual act and this is not sin? A bit confusing to say the least. So it is okay to do what scriptures says not to do in order to do what scripture says nothing about?

Actually, Scripture does say to abstain for prayer and fasting.

Just a note, it is more like a third of a year, not over half.

You don't need to abstain for fish or dairy days, and only from after Vespers on Saturdays when recieving communion.

Also, from what I've been told, so I may be wrong, but the laity isn't actually required to hold to the sex part of the fast, except for preperation for Communion.

But thats more dependent on not keeping oneself from the other. The stresser is different.

1Cr 7:5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

Where does it say to do this? I do know that if you keep yourself from your spouse that this should be the only reason to do this. Not for not having children. Now you show me where we are told in scripture to withhold the sexual act from each other so we will not get pregnant? We are told to only withhold this sexual act for fasting and prayer. But for a short time. Like I said you swat at a gnat and swallow a camel.

Yeah, we see communion differently as I better understand how others see it. I see it as everyday after a spiritual truth so that concept would naturally not work for me. But you (from what I gather) are talking about what enters you mouth on Sunday? Am I gathering correctly?

Hi Lotar,

I don't wish to be offensive in any way.

Now, as this thread has progressed we are learning more and more of what you believe in re to sexual relations with a spouse.

So, since you started the thread, and you said contraception a sin, but can not provide scripture for this, I am wondering what your intent for this thread is?

It is clear, however, I don't know this to be a fact, but it is clear your teaching comes from a source outside the bible, hence outside of God, and then you give 3 things in scripture that you say proves it, which doesn't. soo.

anyway, just want you to know I love you as a brother Christ, and will just pretty much watch instead of participate since my points have all been made.

Also, instead of editing to add to my post, want to just say that I respect whatever you are taught about abstaining and contraception.

Everyone is entitled to their beliefs about matters.

Amen Tapero:thumbsup: Each one after their own conscience concerning a thing

Peace sis'

We do not see that contraception is spoken of as sin. We see this no where in scripture. This is human logic that is being placed upon peoples backs as it is written which it is not.
Where do we ever see it being used in the bible?

And I do expect to see a biblical citation of it being used in the bible and Jesus saying using it is morally acceptable, least your requirement that everything has to be found in scripture is a contradiction because you can not support your premise that it is okay.

I don't see where abortion is condemned or even mentioned in the bible but yet, we know that is immoral, at least i hope we all know that for we all should know that if we don't.

And Lotar, I was under the impression that the Orthodox do allow for barrier types of BC such as condoms? Am I wrong?
