Moody's idea of a Sabbath has been refuted before as Moody proposed the Sabbath as Sunday which has Sabbath promoters speaking out of both sides of their mouths as in one thread they equate he is pro Sabbath by "keeping" and another thread anti Sabbath by not "keeping" Saturday.

In other words all the people in his Sunday Sources would be admonished for one reason or another for not keeping their idea of the Sabbath. It is like saying everyone who is half right agrees with me so I must be "all" right. Such arguments are without merit and don't belong in serious debate.

Yes that is right - 6 of the 7 are actually common ground between Sabbath keeping and Sunday keeping Christians.


1. That the Sabbath Commandment is first given to mankind in Gen 2:1-3
2. That all mankind was obligated by the TEN commandments in the OT and to this very day.
3. That the seventh day as the Sabbath was Saturday the seventh day of the week from Gen 2:1-3 until NT times - including at the cross.
4. That the Ten Commandments are the moral Law of God
5. That the moral law of God is written on the heart under the New Covenant
6. that the Ten Commandments as the moral law of God are in no way opposed to grace and the Gospel.
7. That the Sabbath commandment can rightly be BENT by man-made-tradition to point to week-day-1 after the cross.

I agree with 6 out of 7 as listed above - and yet many who post against God's TEN commandments object to all of the points listed above. And sometimes they will even go on to complain that so many of the points above are in agreement with my position and opposed to the war-against-the-Ten-Commandments position.

It would be interesting to find at least one more Catholic expressing this view on this part of the board - rather than saving these RC tradition trump scriture ideas for other parts of the board.

That was the law as God gave it...'remember to keep holy the Sabbath day..the early Christian church determined as the Lord’s Day the first day of the week. That the church had the right to make such a law is evident...the reason for changing the Lord’s Day from Saturday to Sunday lies in the fact that to the Christian church the first day of the week had been made double holy...nothing is said in the bible about the change of the Lord’s Day from Saturday to Sunday..that is why we find so illogical the attitude of many non-catholic who say they will believe nothing unless they can find it in the bible and yet will continue to keep Sunday as the Lord’s Day on the say-so of the catholic church

I do not know very much about D L Moodey's teaching on Sunday or sabbath obligations. However I do know that Christians are not going to be judged by the ten commandments. That is, I know that no Christian will be condemned to eternal punishment because he or she failed to keep one or more of the ten commandments in their earthly life and I also know that no Christian will be given eternal life because their personally kept all ten of the ten commandments fully and faultlessly in their earthly life. So when I read that commandment keeping is the basis for approval or condemnation of christians in the last judgement I am compelled to disagree. When people in this thread voice disagreement with the thread's original post and when their explanations of their disagreements are explained as meaning that christians will be judged on the basis of their conformity to the ten commandments I know that those explanations are in error.

I can't help but think that appeals to D L Moodey for support in the thesis that keeping the seventh day as sabbath is an obligation laid on the shoulders of every Christian (as if it were an essential part of the yoke of Christ in Matthew 11:28-30) I am compelled to state that I disagree with that thesis with every fibre of my being. Sabbath keeping is not the yoke of Christ. Those who want to teach christians to come under a yoke that includes sabbath keeping as an essential obligation of the new covenant are misrepresenting the new covenant. That is a very serious matter. I pray they will cease and turn away from such a horrendous doctrine.

Well, christians are still not commanded to obey the ten commandments and can confidently expect not to be judged righteous or condemned as a reprobate on the basis of their performance with respect to obeying the then commandments.
