If Mohammed were alive today, he would be locked up in prison for life, for murder, conspiracy to commit murder, for grand theft, and for human trafficking/ kidnapping.

Mohammed was a horrible man, whose *interpretation* of actual holy texts, are completely stained by the evil that he truly was.
That's a new one. The last time I had this discussion with a conservative Christian, the reason that Islam was evil was that Mohammed got his "interpretations" from Oriental Christians, who are even more evil than Mohammed. :D

They "adjusted" the texts to suit their goals. Therefore, they are unholy and tainted.

...There can *NEVER* be anything Quranic posted in any classroom in this country.
I'm sure there are in many private religious schools. That's where this sort of thing belongs.

The Qur'an and Islamic texts must be read in the context of and in comparison to the times they were written. It's a mistake to try and impose our modern expectations upon texts written over 1,300 years ago when Mohammad's actions would be seen as common for that point in history. How well do you think Moses, David or Joshua would do in a court of law in 2025 if their actions were judged by today's legal standards?

I love how the legislature was so heck-bent on passing this that they were happy to break the 4th commandment to do so. As we all know, that is not a mild offense - God has ordered death as the punishment for violating that one (see Numbers 15:35).

Well, I wouldn't take a pen... Of course, we attended Mass daily at my Catholic school, so I was at church 6 days a week for my entire childhood.

But yeah, maybe having the 10 commandments would be helpful a little.
And that's fine for the kids at Catholic school, for those of us that avoided it, putting religious texts on the wall just isn't appropriate.

How is a poster of the Ten Commandments hanging there on the wall going to "install proper morals?" Just by hanging there?
You wouldn’t understand so there’s no point in trying to explain it.

Isn’t that what you all have been doing this whole time at home?
No unfortunately some kids don’t get to hear the word of God at home because they’re being raised by ungodly people.

Still seems to me that people proposing this don't know the Bible very well.

Be that as it may, sure, let's see how the current Supreme Court handles the issue. I think it's not going to go well for the Texas legislators.
Since public schools are no longer funded by the federal government then the federal government should have no say in the matter.

Yeah now read Colossians 2:16 which overrules the Old Covenant.

“Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2‬:‭16‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

So much for Numbers 15:36 huh?

Generally the bill of rights has been considered "incorporated" to the states. Would be interesting if we reversed that. How would the 2A fare?

Oh I’m sure that in TEXAS the second amendment would remain just as it currently stands.

What do you mean "no longer"? Has anything changed?

Federal funds are not the main funders of public schools. It is the states, and particularly the local governments/taxpayers. Federal funding has nothing to do with the application of the bill of rights to state actors.

So you think that having 'Do Not Murder' on a poster will help.

'Yeah, I was going to bring some weapons into school next week and see how many kids I could massacre, but...darn it, that new poster they just put up apparently says I can't do that'.

Where is the honest argument? I haven't seen it yet. You know, the one that says 'Hey, I demand that everyone recognises the US as a Christian nation and I insist that biblical commandments are placed in schools in prominent positions so that my viewpoint that other religions are worthless is visible to all!'

Even still, while your point may apply to some, for others it might be something else. Besides, Christianity really is our culture - it's traditions are woven into the very fabric of who we all are as a people. We are the Western World.

...The least you could do is entertain the notion of preserving our heritage.
