In Genesis we can picture Adam and Eve completely nude talking and walking with GOD.
Then we see Adam and Eve with aprons to cover their shame of disobeying.Remember GOD did not say it is a good thing you are covering your nakedness.
When GOD escorted them out of the garden of Eden he showed them compassion and gave them protection for the cold nights.There was no command " now remember you must be clothed at all times."
Most Christians seem to forget why JESUS died on the cross for.
JESUS took away our shame and sin.

Before there were bathrooms and showers people used to bathe in a lake or river so there was more nudity than you think back then.

And when the USA was just native American Indians some tribes were not against nudity and they were living here first. So Americans did not always wear clothes.

People used to eat their dead relatives...

None of that is mentioned in Genesis, so this seems to be for a Victorian sense of modesty.

It seems specific to the Wesleyan Holiness movement. (Fundamental offshoot of Methodism)
As far as I have found out, it was not shared by other faith communities.

Since "tops" never did that much for me anyway, I see no difference in the 2.

Apparently it was so the girls with larger breasts wouldn't have issues with their breasts getting in the way while swimming or diving.

That was in the 1970's and yes, it is a real story (at least according to her). It probably wouldn't happen today.

BTW, everyone wore bathing suits at both the high school and the Scout camp I attended. Gym classes were co-ed at the high school and we had female staffers at the Scout camp.

Before swimming pools a lot of people swam nude in lakes and rivers etc. Why did it all change and people got more private?

That was in the 1970's and yes, it is a real story (at least according to her). It probably wouldn't happen today.

I've done some research, and I believe it. Nude swimming for both males and females (separately) in American schools was a real thing, and ended around the mid-1970s.

There is a good YouTube video regarding this. The nudity in the video is very mild, but perhaps not something I should link to here.

I saw that documentary on nude swinging in schools. It seems the main reason was because they didn't have good systems to keep the bacteria down. With everyone swimming nude the water stayed cleaner. Once the pool filters improved and chemicals were understood, the bacteria could be dealt with so swim suits has becoming the norm.

I have never any seen any proof that girls ever swam nude in schools. Only males were. This was changed when parents (mothers in particular) filed suit under Title IX. This is ironic in that so many right wing critics hate that law because they feel it is reverse sexist when, in fact, it ended sexist practices against male students in this instance.
