  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The other day a young person asked me how I felt about being old.
I was taken aback, for I do not think of myself as old.
Upon seeing my reaction, she was immediately embarrassed,
but I explained that it was an interesting question, and I would ponder it,
and let her know.

Old Age, I decided, is a gift.
I am now, probably for the first time in my life, the person I have always wanted to be.
Oh, not my body! I sometime despair over my body, the wrinkles, the baggy eyes, and the sagging butt.
And often I am taken aback by that old person that lives in my mirror
(who looks like my Father!),
but I don't agonize over those things for long.

I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family
for less gray hair or a flatter belly.
As I've aged, I've become more kind to myself, and less critical of myself.
I've become my own friend.
I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed,
or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avante garde on my patio.
I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.
I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon;
before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.
Whose business is it ?
if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon?

I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60&70's,
and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love ... I will.

I will walk the beach in a trunks that is stretched over a sagging body,
and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to,
despite the pitying glances from the jet set. They, too, will get old.

I know I am sometimes forgetful.
But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten.
And I eventually remember the important things.

Sure, over the years my heart has been broken.
How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers,
or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car?
But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion.
A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.

I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray,
and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face.
So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.

As you get older, it is easier to be positive.
You care less about what other people think.
I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be wrong.

So, to answer your question, I like being old.
It has set me free.
I like the person I have become.
I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here,
I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be.
And I shall eat dessert every single day. (If I feel like it)

MAY OUR FRIENDSHIP NEVER COME APART
ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART!
MAY YOU ALWAYS HAVE A RAINBOW OF SMILES ON YOUR FACE
AND IN YOUR HEART FOREVER AND EVER!
FRIENDS FOREVER!

Yeahhhhhh!
You can look back and take-stock
~of all the really good 'moves' you initiated
~of all of the very-good advice you have given, to another's advantage
God be praised for the wisdom of years
Life, is too short for 'regrets'
((((:)hug:)))))

Did you really write that yourself Dave?
It's tear-jerkingly beautiful!

I do not claim authorship Sis Yvie
But I have heavily EDITED the note that reached me by email
The above, is that marriage of inspiration

I do not recall 'exactly' when I received it ...maybe 2003 /2004

here is a 2007 mention of it
http://www.bitoffun.com/forums/interest-couples-f47/question-about-being-old-t19776.html

and another
http://www.rockinghamremembered.com/WhatIsOldAge.html

It did for sure get popular, a while-back

Am glad you enjoyed it

I used to skate like crazy around the side walks at the local elementary school...off hours of course. I wore those skates that attached to your leather shoes...:thumbsup::D...yep that is still me in there somewhere.

I haven't done much in the last couple days but ask (beg) God to improve my work circumstances. I enjoy the "functions" of my job but don't really want to work there anymore and I am having a hard time with the crazy hours... Its taking it's toll. I'm really not a lazy or slothful person. I would just rather have a schedule that I can depend on and maybe a little more control over my time. God's probably tired of hearing it. :)
The Lord can take it Connie ;)
Praying you get a job with all the perks you need, want, and deserve

I loved doing that 30 years ago ^_^
My daughter's class always had skating parties; it was so much fun!
No way would I dare try it now
Take good care you don't break anything

Thanks to all those who appreciate my painting....this is one is taking forever to finish. So....all of this sunshine and warm weather even has my son cleaning his room. Alan stayed home from work yesterday and (tho he was feeling dizzy) cleaned the house, marinated chicken, stoked up the b-b-q and cooked me a lovely supper. I told him that he should stay home more often, lol I think that he is just adjusting to all the meds following his heart attack. That's all for today folks. Have a great day!

Those meds are very strong and if he loses weight from the stress of everything, that affects how he will feel. On the brighter side, I love having my hubby cook a meal now and then.

My hubby is also a great cook ~ he just made breakfast (a killer western omelette) :yum:

Have a great day

Sounds yummy...we had organic oatmeal and whole grain pancakes early. I eat the cakes...with hemp protein powder added, chopped pecans and blueberries. No syrup...I use a "real" bit of jam.

I have been out today, mailed a box to our son...it was his jacket he left behind from the weekend visit.

Spoke to a neighbor for the 1st time...we always wave, today we chatted. She is close to my age.

That sounds yummy :)

I will be heading out for a nice dinner with my 2 sisters in a bit.
There is a lovely, scenic and rustic place on a Mill pond, with lots of ducks to feed...and the food is great!
I am looking forward to getting out...and it is so beautiful and warm today :)
