  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I like your granddaughters picture...
and thanks for the prayers...
I am sentimental but that side of me doesn't seem to be evident to family...
they see me as cold and uncaring...
when in truth I just have low tolerance for unruly or selfish behavior.
It bothers me however that my son has probably never noticed
that his painted rocks and a corn cob are in my china cabinet. lol

Hello Birdie,

You actually sound a lot like my wife and I. We don't have expensive things either, and we treasure things from our family. It's interesting because there is usually a story to go with each item - a nice memory.
That is us too....I have PLAYDOUGH creations on my bookshelf, drawings on my fridge etc etc ;)
I am a very simple, frugal person...not into clothes or jewelry.
All I own is my engagement/wedding rings...and those were bought by Jim on the Marine base (cheap but precious to me).
Jim knows got a good deal when he got me, as he hears about his co-worker's wives who go on shopping sprees for clothes and diamonds etc :D ^_^

i don't have expesive things but I have memories that I cherish associated with some of the things I have here at home.. I baking dish I never use, my great grandmother, my china, my other great grandma started and then my mom finished. My figurines (except for the one I bought recently from avon - a nativity scene because I had never owned one), all of the figurines I posses were handed down from various family members.. Some of them I forgot who. lol.. two pictures I have hanging my mother painted. two more hidden so my child don't take them if ever he shows up. a tapestry that hung on the wall at my great grandparents house. things my aunt made (she like to do ceramics). the two rocks my son painted when he was 6 and the corn cob he gave me when he as 3... okay that's enough borring you with my stuff. lol. my great grandmothers.ss sowing box.. okay i'm really going to quit now... you get the picture.. I'm a hoarder. lol
I too have a lot of 'hand me downs'; most of my home decorations are from family who have passed on; and they will go to my kids when we pass on.

I used to have an old measuring cup that I put a melted scorch in while learning to cook. My mother looked at it and said, "i'll give that to you when you leave home.".. And she did... then my son in his teenage years decided to help get rid of all my junk... HE THREW IT AWAY. I used it almost daily.
Oh gosh Connie
When that happens I just cling to the memories ;)
I have an interview. Since I never applied for the job, I only know they will be hiring General Managers and Co-managers
Praying for your blessing and direction in this :crossrc:

Those are little treasures worth keeping...I kept my mother's oven mitts a long time after she died. She loved to cook. I have my father's, mother's Bible, which is very degraded, but her handwriting is in there...otherwise, I have no family keep sakes at all...both sides of my family were very poor and my parents, parents came from Europe, leaving everything I guess.

My son says I don't have anything he wants...so that tells you something about my trinkets...I told him to keep my books...I like my library.

well, I emailed him back.. the man who contacted me...It's a large family owned operation... probably safer than a gas station...and as a manager I would most likely spend minimal time behind the cash register... there are cameras... and lots of knarly looking truckers for robbers to have to deal with. lol

My experience as a customer has been good in the 2 truck stops we use...other customers have been friendly too.

Will you be out on a major freeway type setting?

I'm not sure where I would be.. the one next to me is on a highway but not a really big one as there is a lot of trucking industry on that road so the truckers know where to go.

First I would have to get the job or the job would have to pay enough to support me. :) ... they are usually very large truck-stops... or at least the one's near me are... bath shower house for the truckers... 24 hour restaurant.., food, shopping, and lots of trinkets souvenirs . and gas... the one near me has a large lot for the truckers to park and sleep.... I think they are expanding/growing and thinking of adding another truck stop somewhere.

The company boasts of being family owned and operated with family values, but they have to be huge... as they have several truck-stops... I actually never really thought of working somewhere like that, but I like the fact that they are not fortune 100... i've worked for 3 fortune companies in my lifetime and I really don't want to anymore.

Thanks :) I really want God to lead me on this. I don't want to end up worse off than I am now... walgreens is doing creative things with the staff and it involves my position... that's all I can say now. I need change to survive... I need God's change.

Our truck stops are similar to what you described...the regular traffic stops there too...families ETC. It is easy to get gas at these places.

It is close to a large city and on route to an even larger city... soo, the local traffic often stops and gets gas, and lunch for work and coffee on their way into the larger metropolis. lots of traffic there all hours of the night.

Morning Eagles....I know this belongs in another thread but it's raining this morning. I don't know why but I prefer snow to rain in the morning....unless of course I could stay in bed, lol It's sooooo hard to go to work when it's so gray and damp outside. Well, getting here was half the battle and here I am. In case you haven't been following, I've been doing a painting since last Sunday posting my progress every day. Today is day 5. The painting is called "The Riviera" though I've never been. Have a great weekend people and I'll talk you again next Monday (God willing)!.

i like the way snow looks but I hate cold weather... I don't have proper snow clothing these days because I choose not to spend money on it... rain is good as long as it doesn't go on and on and on and on.... :)
