In a word, no. To be saved is to adhere to the ways of the Kingdom and not it's counterpart, the world of man. A choice of allegiance is required which means rejection of one in favour of the other. The same choice Eve once made (and failed)

A person can and does receive God's free gift of Eternal Life without repentance. Belief/faith/trust is what gives a person, God's free gift of Eternal life. Repentance is not a condition given to receive Eternal Life.

I have come across many Christians who say they believe and get baptised but lack repentance, are they
saved?
(edit)
Repentance is a result of the Holy Spirit's work within our hearts.

We receive the Holy Spirit after salvation.

The subject sentence makes it sound like we are saving ourselves through works.

Repent and believe Mark 1:15 for the kingdom is at hand. It’s necessary to turn and go towards God when you get saved. The HS has already been working on you. Baptism is a sign that you have been cleansed from your sins already.

When you repent, this opens the door for the Holy Spirit to work on you further. The act of trust becomes the conduit, the flesh amounts to nothing since it is at emnity with God.

John the Baptist was preaching repentance for the forgiveness of sins and baptizing. The temple establishment in Jerusalem was selling animals to be used as offerings to God as atonement for the sins they committed.

You are supposed to stop sinning. Alcoholics had to give up drinking alcohol. Fornicators were supposed to become celibate or marry their partner. Thieves were supposed to work jobs and steal no more.

No one should call a drunk driver saved.

The idea of repentance is for the Jews and can be viewed from the parable of the tenants, told in all 3 synoptic gospels. (Matthew 21:33-46; Mark 12:1-12; Luke 20:9-19)

When Jesus and the 12 were preaching from Matt-John, they need to repent of rejecting God their Father in the OT, and believe in his Son is their promised King and Messiah, as foretold by their prophets.

But as Jesus told them in the parable of the tenants, they were wicked and decided to slay the son instead, thinking they can then take control of the vineyard. The words they told Pilate was really horrific from this perspective

Matthew 27:25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

When Jesus was on the cross, he asked his father to forgive them for this act, because they know not what they do, the Father agreed to Jesus request.

So when Peter urged his Jewish brothers at Pentecost to repent (Acts 2:38), they are to repent from their horrific act of murdering the Son of God, and accept him once again as the Son of God and their King.

But of course they did not, so God blinded them temporary.

Repentance for Gentiles is not strictly necessary. We need to believe in Jesus's death burial and resurrection for our sins. If there is repentance, it more to repent of our works to get right with God, and rest in Jesus's finished works.

We all put the son of God on the cross. He died once for all sin. He only forgives us/them if we repent. Otherwise there would be no hell, there would be no unpardonable sin. When the Jews see Jesus at Armageddon they will repent for killing the Messiah.

Guojing makes an interesting point, but in the bigger picture of what Guojing showed us, the entire Bible and the history of mankind is about how man continually rejects the will of the Father for the will of man, putting our will ahead of His, hence the sin of self... self awareness, self interest, self justification, self determination and so on. It was self interest that got Adam and Eve kicked out of the Garden because Eve put her own interest/desire ahead of the will of God and it was the first rebellion, the original sin. Every time the chosen people screwed up, it was putting their will ahead of the will of God.

This entire world we have created in our own image runs of the principle of self. Jesus could be seen as a revolutionary because He presented a counter-culture to the traditional ways of mankind. It appealed to those who were under the oppression of fellow man using the power of self to gain at the expense of others, hence His immediate disciples of the poor, slaves and servants, and women. It did not appeal to the authourity who thrived on the principle of self interest and the power it affords.

The same applies today and the same reaction would occur if He had come now instead of then... more so. If His Gospel of the Kingdom was taught today in all nations instead of another, the world would be split over which allegiance to make, the will of man or the will of God.

That of course might have been the case all along only if 'official' Christianity hadn't turned away from the Kingdom 1700 years ago and put their will ahead of the Kingdom, rejecting God's Kingdom to build their own and align themselves with the governance of man rather than the governance of God. Hence the Gospel of the Kingdom to all nations was rejected for another to cover the rebellion of Gentile Christianity. But it still will occur someday as Jesus said it would be so. Christianity simply needs to get back on track and teach the right Gospel.

So yes the world would likely kill the Messiah today also, but that ship has already sailed so man including Christianity will fight Him once more when He returns, mankind not having made the decision to turn from putting our will ahead of the will of God, hence not repenting(changing) our ways. No room in the Kingdom for those who rebel against it.

Not a bad post.

Self first is the exact opposite of love.

Christ put us first and that cost Him his life.

Divine love saves us by grace alone, through Christ alone.

No, repentance is absolutely required per Acts 3:19 and Acts 20:21.

We must repent to be converted, so our sins are forgiven. Acts 3:19

Paul taught repentance toward God AND faith toward Jesus. Acts 20:21.

Plus Jesus said He came to call sinners unto repentance, and unless you repent you will perish.

Repentance is not included in faith as some claim.

The gospel of Christ is synonymous with the gospel of the kingdom, and whether they understand that or not, those who are redeemed through faith and repentance, have been translated into the spiritual kingdom now, and will automatically be in the unending physical kingdom of Christ on the earth, when He returns.

BTW Eve was deceived into eating the forbidden fruit, but Adam was not - and he most likely ate the fruit when Eve offered it, because he wanted to stay with her, otherwise she’d be kicked out f Eden and they’d be separated.

Oh yes, it is most certainly a condition for salvation.

Repentance is always necessary to turn from our focus on sin and back to a focus on Gods will in His Word. We have to have remorse for our sin otherwise we will be living in sin- the lifestyle of sin. It’s there to keep on track and we will have success more and more. You have to jerk yourself out of the sin mindset with sorrow and shame to motivate yourself to try again. Isn’t our goal sinlessness like Jesus. Then we will grow and get better and our advocate will advocate for us to God to continue to forgive us because we are trying and succeeding and giving it to God. Because that is His way, repent and go on and get over it. With Gods mercy there is always room for growth. Our goal is to be like Jesus and get all the sins that lead to death out of our days.

Thanks. Just like in Jesus' day it is going to be tough on those in authourity, be it governance in the secular world or in institutional Christianity as God is going to completely take over the governance of man and I doubt there will be severance pay or that they will not rebel against the idea. His Kingdom come, His will be done... Could be a tough transition for many who have refused to repent so far or don't even know the difference between the two wills.
