If I was making a presentation, then even though I know what I'm talking about and I've practiced it very many times and even if I've already given a precis of the talk to someone for various reasons then I will make notes. And not just on major, important points. Not just the technical aspects. But on every point of the presentation. In the order that I expect to make it. So if someone asks a question that needs answering and I end up off script, then I can get back on line.

Have you guys heard the story of the boy who called 'wolf'? Keep complaining about nonsensical aspects of the presidency like this and it devalues all your arguments.

I do sometimes. It depends what I was talking about, what’s happened since then and how important it is that I stay close to what I had originally said.

Would I need them? Maybe. Maybe not. But I know how my mouth interacts with my brain, and sometimes I need a reminder to keep them in sync. Better to have notes and not need them than not have the notes, get sidetracked, and not make the point I was trying to make.

It looks great when a politician can speak entirely off-the-cuff, but that's not a necessary skill for governance or leadership, and it looks terrible when they try to and fail.

And we all know Biden would fail. It’s what got him in the predicament he was in.
