His comments closely aligned with notes printed on a small piece of paper that he was photographed holding in his left hand as he spoke that began as follows:

• If you weren’t advocating for regime change, what did you mean? Can you clarify?

• I was expressing the moral outrage I felt towards the actions of this man

• I was not articulating a change in policy

That's very good. It means that he is less likely to go off script.

In matters of the gravest concern it is best if the speaker is as prepared as possible. Cheat sheets are not a bad thing when the message has to be clear.

Not that I think Biden is the clearest speaker (he is very old and he has a known speech impediment so it would be the most unkind and cruel cut to mock his speech). And he definitely stepped in it with his recent comments in Europe. So, yeah, let's make sure he (and any other president) has access to "cheat sheets" when the topic is important.

I remember when that happened. It was a scary time to be alive. We were all living under the constant threat of global nuclear war because of the Cold War. Ironically we are back at it today. Same players, different ideologies, only this time the Gipper's Party is the one actively seeking friendship with the Russian Bear.

That said, you want to compare Biden to Reagan?

For those of us who remember the Reagan years we often worried (near the end) that he was actually suffering from early stage Alzheimers (he later actually DID develop it). But you are correct, Reagan was a polished speaker. A man capable of hiding behind a mask of friendliness and chumminess and "down home wit". He was an actor. That was his game and he did it well.

Biden's incoherent ramblings pale in comparison to Reagan's articulate, eloquent, insights.

Biden is too old to be President. Reagan was too old. But we must also be mindful that Biden also has a speech impediment and while Trump was fine with mocking the disabled the rest of us should be aware of this when we go against a public speaker's speech. Generally, though, I agree that Biden is far too old for the job.

I wasn't talking about speech impediments. I was talking about incoherent nonsense. We'd have to get quite imaginative to write off Biden's disconnected ramblings as a speech impediment.

I wasn't talking about speech impediments.

However it is something to keep in mind. He suffers from a life-long stutter. That often leads to uncomfortable pauses in speech as someone attempts to process. It is hard to differentiate, especially as one ages and speech gets slower, those times when he is truly struggling to speak or when he is struggling to think.

I know it is often hard to keep ourselves from finding only flaws in those we disagree with. And I've been quite honest with my feelings that Biden IS too old to be in the office.

Personally I thought it was bad for reporters to make light of Trump's seeming inability to navigate stairs or ramps without help. That's clearly an underlying issue. I hope we can be a better nation overall.

I'm not sure what you mean about "Do you have any cheat sheets?" But I can guarantee you if I give a presentation to my management I definitely do have cheat sheets to make sure I'm getting the correct point across. And I'm not a bad public speaker having won a couple of awards for outstanding talks at various confrences. I don't speak from notes, but I will have notes handy. It's a common thing for professionals.

I don't think taking someone's words out of context by cutting and pasting only portions that clearly lead to a mischaracterization the point is necessarily the best way to sum up any topic and far from "brilliant". I did not at any point say that Biden was actually having trouble thinking.
