  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Atheist morality.

Great. They're still Christians if they identify as such. Don't expect the rest of us to care whether a certain Christian would respect that label.

Ok so the criteria for being something now is just to state that you are one. I thought actions speak louder than words. In that case I am an alien from the planet pluto and i have amazing powers. I just choose not to show anyone at the moment. But because i say I am then I am. If a heterosexual person says they are straight when they are doing everything that makes them Gay what are they then identified as what they say or what they do. They may state they are something because of various reasons. Saying you are something doesn't prove anything. It might be the trendy thing to do or there might be misunderstanding about what it is to be that person. But if what they do is not in line with being a christian then they are no more a christian that you but are even worse, they are a false prophet and hypocrite. The US is especially poor at at this they justify that having riches is somehow ok when being a Christian. They have been doing it for so long that they really believe that themselves. Its OK to have money but when you are spending it on yourself and making a Crystal palace that is justified because its a house of God is idol worship and materialism. That money should be used to feed the poor and Hungry. Jesus said whenever you give someone a drink because they are thirsty you are giving me the same.

When it comes to identities such as religion, political affiliation, and gender, yes. That's basically it. Welcome to objectivity. It'd be impossible to get any unbiased research done if a person's identities had to be approved by other people.

You can do this without hating your life. It is the needless hatred towards mankind (painting them as totally depraved for example) or insisting that this life is so worthless that it should be hated that is objectionable.

Amen!

This negative attitude seems to be a common trait among Christians that I find abhorrent.

No its more than objectivity. Thats why people are outed and religious people are busted for being hypocrites. Because they dont practice what they preach and are not who they say they are. It can be proven and exposed. Non Christians just want to change the goal posts so they can attribute all these non christian behaviors to them and bring down the status of the righteous and worthy God who is the same always and can stand undisputed among all. Man is the one who adds his own interpretation and behaviors to religion. It is clear what a Christian is and any less is being a false prophet or hypocrite. The pharisees went around looking the part but Jesus exposed them for who they were. A christian is what the name says CHRIST- ian which is Christ like. Though we are not perfect we display the attributes which are Christ like. The bible says you can tell a Christian by the fruits they bear. If you want to know what attributes Christ had and teaches us in how we can inherit the kingdom of heaven then the New testament is full of them. Specifically the sermon on the Mount and the
beatitudes.
THE EIGHT BEATITUDES OF JESUS

You can cut the crap. You've made it clear that you never learned how to conduct research properly.
I think I know how to research after 40 plus years of life and study.

Funny enough I agree with your premise. Saying you are a Christian doesn't prove i am a christian. It is in the actions and not the words where the proof is to others.

But to God works alone wont save you but acceptance of Jesus does through faith. This is accepting the free gift of grace that God gives us. He did this by giving his only begotten son to be a sacrifice for all sin and sinners. This was the ultimate sacrifice that makes us worthy before God. It is only by believing and accepting this that we are made righteous before God.

A person who accepts this will be born again and live in the spirit of God and not in the flesh of man and this world. So they can overcome sin and death and will be transformed into a new person. This person should be Christ like and growing and becoming more Christ like all the time. We can have our moments of making mistakes and giving into sin but we will be displaying a godly like life more and more.

If what the writer believes is real and that Jesus is the way the truth and the life then this will be the way that brings true peace and happiness. So the ways of this world will represent the opposite and bring sorrow and hurt and conflict. If there is more to things than just this world then the greater life will be eternal life. We will live on this earth for a speck of time compared to eternal life. So this life will be a small portion of things but could take us away from eternal life with God if we give it more importance than the will of God. In other words we can begin to live in heaven on earth by doing Gods will here and now rather than placing more importance on the pleasures and desires of this world which is not the rue answer to what we are really looking for.

I'm not sure about that. That seems to be more along the lines of being crazy if anything. The bible says do not tempt God.
Matthew 4:7
Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"

Proving God through putting him to the test is more about a lack of faith and placing God in some box. It speaks more about a man made means of proof and a skeptical attitude and not trusting God. God does not prove himself so that people can believe. It is by believing that we are saved the other way around. But God has and will do great things to save people and will look after us if we trust and believe in him. But asking for this type of test is bring things down to mans way of thinking and proving things which is putting God down and lowering him to our level.

Oh. So Chriatians are superior to others.

No did Christ think he was superior to others even though he was the son of God. No he was humble and even went to the point of washing the feet of his disciples. This was done before a meal and was done by the lowest of servants. He was showing his humility and that he was an obedient servant to God the fathers will.

Matthew 20:28
even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

So if anything being Christ like is also being humble and serving others. Jesus also said love others as you love yourself which is showing that you are not putting yourself above others. It seems mans version of trying to put God down and make him out to be bad all the time is more to do with how man thinks and acts and not God. This is just a projection of how this world views things.

Mark 12:30-31
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

Well for one, Christ was superior. In fact, He was flawless. He was divine.

When you say that when a non-Christian becomes a Christian he becomes a better and better person, that tells us that Christians are better people than the rest of us.

When you say "that guy is bad, he can't be a Christian" you're just telling us that he's just another one of "us", and not good enough to be like "you".

When you say "Those people are worse than even you" you're placing yourself above someone else.

Just saying "Oh, and we're humble" does not change what you've said, nor does it actually make you humble.

No that is all your injections of what you think and feel. I dont think or feel that way at all. There is a difference between Christ being a God that is worthy of his position and being egocentric and think they are better than others. Christ doesn't fall into that category. If you read the bible you will see he is humble and a servant and giving of himself. Others are actually being superior and putting it over him. He is crucified with criminal on a cross and spat upon and treated badly. He allowed this all to happen as he was being obedient to Gods will. This is our example and his spirit dwells in our hearts.

Christians dont say those people who are sinners are worse and we are superior. They hate the sin but love the sinners. That is what any person can do not just religious people. Society is made up of people who want status and thing they are better. The classes and have s and have not. Thinking their job and position is better. Thinking because they have a better car or have more money they are better. This is what secular society is like. Anyone who claims to be a Christian and is acting like this is merely doing the same as what society does in the name of religion.

I know that many religious people have given Christians a bad name but this is not being a Christian but a person hiding behind religion and doing bad things in the name of God. They will be judged more greatly for they knew better.

Seems we can summarize it this way:
When nonChristians do a bad thing it is because they are not Christian, and when Christians do the same thing they do it despite them being Christian.

Yep that basically sums it up.

Yes there is. And as a divine being - a supreme being - Jesus is by definition superior to us and everything else. Jesus could be superior and humble.

Christ doesn't fall into that category. If you read the bible you will see he is humble and a servant and giving of himself. Others are actually being superior and putting it over him. He is crucified with criminal on a cross and spat upon and treated badly. He allowed this all to happen as he was being obedient to Gods will. You did. Repeatedly. Did you not say that false prophets were even worse than atheists (or Caerbhall)? Doesn't that make you better? Superior?

They hate the sin but love the sinners. That is what any person can do not just religious people. Society is made up of people who want status and thing they are better. Ah, and you're above that? You're better than that? I think you're going to find that almost anything you've said in these posts have boiled down to "I'm better, because I'm Christian", or "Christians are better because x". Go ahead, take a look.

I know that many religious people have given Christians a bad name but this is not being a Christian but a person hiding behind religion and doing bad things in the name of God. They will be judged more greatly for they knew better.

So, they're not good enough to be Christians?

Seems we can summarize it this way:
When nonChristians do a bad thing it is because they are not Christian, and when Christians do the same thing they do it despite them being Christian.

Thats where it is wrong. It isn't just based on the deeds of a person and what the do and dont do in being a Christian. It is the becoming of a different person that is no longer under that law and way of being and doing if that makes sense. That is why I was saying they become a new person living under the spirit of God and not the flesh of man. So when A Christian is born again and the spirit of God lives in them. They are no long controlled by their fleshly desires and temptations. The spirit of God reminds and keeps tapping on your brain or some inner wall on your soul reminding you of God and Jesus's sacrifice.

I Liken it a bit to AA. When an alcoholic first comes to AA they are unaware and in some denial about their situation. But when they identify with others and their problem and find that it is actually a form of disease they have and there is a way out they will never be the same. If they go back and drink they know, there's this voice in their head saying you know this no good and you know there is a way out. So they have been sort of touched by the spirit of AA.

Everyone is the same and a Christian is no better and its not just judged on merits and point scoring and how many times you stuffed up. And its not a cop out for having a get out of jail card either as that is like nailing Christ to the Cross over and over again and you dont want to do that if you believe that this is the grace that has saved you in the first place. In this sense I believe that people that dont identify themselves as Christian are more Christian that religious people that look and want to be seen as good only. So a Christian that has the spirit of Jesus in their lives will be a different person who is living by the spirit of God and not the flesh. Their lives will be governed by spiritual things which is talked about in the bible such as the fruits of the spirit.

But because we are also basically fleshly people as well we are in battle with our earthly desires of lust and greed and envy the 7 deadly sins are some. But as a christian you will be growing in the spirit of God and if you submit your life then you should be becoming more like Jesus all the time. You will continue to grow in God until you die. The bible says that we can be like Christ in fact it says we can do even greater things that Jesus. But that is not diminishing Jesus but saying that Jesus Goes to the Father and if we believe then many things are possible.

John 14:12, "Verily, verily, I say unto you. He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto My Father."
