Catholics believe that that decision is above our pay grade. We leave tit up to God...Will you also burn in hell if you belong to an Evangelical/Protestant church that plays Rock Music during Church?
Rock Music And Devil Worship
No worries, brother. I just think that anyone on earth who thinks they know who's going to hell had better look in the mirror at themselves.I did not mean to attack Catholics with that question. I asked the question to expose the hypocrisy of bigoted protestant Fundamentalist/Evangelicals. They typically condemn liturgical churches for celebrating lent. (Catholicism is far from being the only church in this group, since protestant churches Lutherans, Anglicans and Presbyterians all celebrate lent. So does Eastern Orthodoxy).
But the Fundies hypocritically ignore the unsavory and questionable roots of rock n' roll at all costs.

God will burn you in Hell for putting ashes on your head to commemorate the beginning of the Lenten season.
Chew on that statement and just please....please....think about how stupid that sounds. If I get reprimanded for that, so be it. But I don't know what else to say about this topic. THINK!!!
Really? what's with you guys?
A number of us have asked you to either show where someone has condemend anyone to hell or quit bearing false witness, and ya'll just keep going and going with this false accusation.
You apparently can't help but make it personal. Saying a pracice is non-biblical and that it even goes against Christ's command has zero to do with condemning a person. It's right there in the title, Simon, Ash Wednesday/Lent-Pagan origins, against Christ's command. You've falsely accused Ash Wednesday and Lent has being of pagan origins, you've declared paganism a false religion, you say Jesus says satan is the author of false religion and that we are violating his command. How is it then, that you can avow all this and still say you're not condemning us? But, it's even worse, it's Jesus who condemns, not you. My God is a god of mercy, not condemnation, so for you to say we're being condemned by our own Lord and Savior for practicing Lent makes you even more implausible. I agree with sonshine, this whole premise of this thread is a flame against those who practice Lent.
From the testimony of the 'born again' we know that those who are saved by faith will exhibit that faith naturally by their works and those works will be abundant and easy to recognize. In your case, aside from being puffed up by your righteousness, your prideful knowledge of the bible and early Church history and your condemning spirit, you also share in another trait of the Pharisees, the leaven of hypocrisy.
Sorry to make it personal, but when one's ideas are so novel, esoteric, and exclusive how could it be any other way but personal?
Too many people take up the cry against 'celebrations' at this time of year echoing the magazines published by the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society. Stop it. You're doing a wicked thing when you accuse Christians of being pagan and doing pagan things on pagan holy days.

What about the false accusation that the imposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday is a pagan practice?Really? what's with you guys?

Nobody reads newspapers any more. What's black and white and red all over? A sun-burnt herd of zebras running through the Arizona desert.
See post #607. Believe you were the one who found the Athanasius connection and the Gregory connection to the fixing of 40 days to easter, sans Sabbath, always from a Wednesday to Sunday.
The question is still whether Gregory (who standardized the 40-day "fast") initiated the ash part of the practice. That sackcloth and ashes were a sign of repentance (Jonah) is true enough, but were the ashes always a mark during Lenten time?
That is likely as close to an apostolic practice that we are going to arrive at.PS. Very early on some fasted 40 hours, marking what they thought was the period from a Friday 3pm death to a Sunday 7am resurrection.
What about the false accusation that the imposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday is a pagan practice?
You're the one that is wicked for this whole thread and condemning other Christians as pagans and not Christians and stop acting as if a victim you have accused the believers of false things! No one has ever been called anyone a pagan on this thread. Stop bearing false witness, that is wicked thing.
Why worry about what it is "close to" when you know what it is-a reminder that we are but ash, and unto ash we will return? This has not been proven otherwise, there is no similarity to sackcloth and pouring ashes over you head compared to putting a cross on your forehead and marching around for the world to see.
The ash on the forehead is closer to the tripundra sybol of hinduism from the 8th century than it is to the OT pouring of ashes.
The Original Post is in error. Easter is not pagan. It is a commemoration of the Lord's resurrection. Lent is related to the forty days fast of the Lord after his baptism. It is commemorated before Easter because baptised Christians are thereby helped to think through the meaning of their baptism in practical experienced ways every year.
And for good measure I'll note that Christmas is not pagan, celebrating birthdays is not pagan or evil, and the doctrine of the Holy Trinity is not a pagan doctrine either.

And again, I ask, though you fundies seem to ignore it, so what? Why do you condemn how someone practices their faith? Why not focus yourself on how you practice your faith?
