and why was Martin Luther excommunicated from the Roman Catholic church? Could it be that he was attempting to start his own religion different to the one taught by the RCC?

I wonder what Lion King is doing.

Explains why certain disgruntled Vatican Necromancers are trying to revive him...

Wait, you're saying that Luther didn't want to start his "Lutherferian" religion so he could be the Pope and King of the Holy Lutherferian Empire!?

I so wish I was good at photoshopping. I have this odd need to overlay Bob Marley's face with Luther's complete with dreads. Not sure what caused that sudden need. Must have something to do with the great Schism where we went of a starting a new religion in which the god Fred is worshipped through sipping iced tea from a large bucket with communal straws.

..merely pointing out the hypocrisy in this thread.

How can one criticize other people for breaking off from "traditional Christianity" and forming their own churches and doctrines, when their own church founders are guilty of the same?

Have you decided upon a certain congregation to join for weekly worship and for communion? People have been wondering about this for quite a while now.

My Church's founder is Jesus Christ and guilty of nothing.

Oh come on. Do you really believe he was out to start a new religion by speaking against selling indulgences for cash?
I'm not even going as far as what resulted but what his original intention was.

Except that Luther at no point desired to start a new church. For Luther he was simply being a faithful Catholic--and never ceased being a faithful Catholic.

this is the myth of the Reformation
it was not focused on the abuses of authoirty such as the selling of indulgences and the temporal authoirty of the Pope or the Bishops.

That just helped to get them started
from the begining it was about offering a differant Gospel from what was given to us by Jesus Christ and has been preserved by His Holy Catholic Church.

St. Francis of Assisi was very outspoken about abuses of wealth and power, it led to conflict in the Church...
but it did not end with the creation of new religions
because the basis of his problems were with abuses
and the basis of Luthers problems were with Christian doctrines

How does one do that while excommunicated? I would suppose you mean in actual practice.
Some of his writings seem very angry. I can understand that after he was excommunicated and branded a criminal.
I see a cleric so intent on fighting a wrong that he even came up with some solutions so it wouldn't happen again. It's some of his solutions I have a bit of an issue with. I think they went too far. But I'm also thinking he never intended a Church to arise to hold them doctrinal.
Sometimes our written thoughts can come back to haunt us. From what I've read, Luther wanted to fix what he saw as problems in his own Church (the Roman Catholic Church). But it didn't work out as per his desires.
I'll not judge him right or wrong in his actions. I see his ORIGINAL INTENTION as an honorable one. Now when he began writing and not first submitting those to his bishop first, he entered a dangerous slope. But it seemed to be worth it to the cleric.
I often wonder if he could have foreseen what it caused, if he would have held to his guns so intently.

Luther was convinced that the source of abuses was theological in nature. Fix the theology, fix the abuses.

Luther's Gospel, by the way, was this simply: Jesus Christ, crucified and risen, means we have a God of love who graciously condescends to meet sinners in their sin to rescue them.

As far as I'm aware Rome does teach this Gospel. The problem Luther had, was that this Gospel was being muddled, and as such the populace wasn't hearing it--they were hearing the ministrations of the indulgence peddlers such as Johan Tetzel. So they were hearing a lot of Law--what we must do to be righteous, but not a whole lot of "But God has made us righteous through His Son, this is the Good News".

Simple.

With the understanding they have.

They think they are right.

Sorta like you and I.

That settles it. I just heard it from Luther.MrLuther at that.
Now can we get back to sending those Oneness folk to be burned at the stake?
We've roasted Luther properly today and the EO yesterday. Looks like Rome is on the schedule for tomorrow. I bet this is one time they don't mind not being first.
So throw another log on the fire. The lumberjacks need the work.

So what about those oneness pentecostals? Did we ever decide whether they are saved. Or was that the topic? I'm a bit confused: Was Luther a Oneness Pentecostal or was that TD Jakes.

yeah i think the forumers got bored with the original topic .
