So in other words folks are accusing cops of being racist for defending themselves from a perp with a criminal history who was bent on doing suicide by cop.

Obviously it isn’t acceptable, they shot him SEVEN TIMES!

Not surprising, really. He was armed with a deadly weapon.

I think George Floyd's death was a very bad thing, but if you are brandishing a knife on cops, getting shot or killed isn't a surprising outcome.

IMO, it's a difficult and dark time for our country and some people are focusing their rage on police, because of that, regardless of the actual, concrete circumstances... people are less willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

It seems to me the policeman feared Blake might grab a weapon, turn around and kill him. Blake was shot in a sort of panic.

When I saw the video, I saw that the policeman shot Blake four times....then paused....then shot three more times.

Surely he realized that the first four point blank shots in the back had done significant damage, more than enough to render Blake harmless.

Sometimes, of course, a policeman might feel safer to actually kill the suspect. Dead men tell no tales. A living witness is much more dangerous to a policeman who knows that he will be brought up on charges, because a living witness can testify. Hence the final three shots?

I call the pause between the fourth and fifth shots "premeditation."

There were, at least 4 cops with tasers and guns, against one small guy ... who wasn't even armed (i.e. the knife was in the car ... and they let him get access to it). They followed him out of the house (weaponless) to the door of the car. Noone was running. They could have easily stopped him before he got to the car door.

Seven shots from one cop not a foot away will tell the tale. No fair-minded person will be able to justify that.

UPDATE: the Department of Justice has confirmed that Jacob Blake has admitted to having a knife and that a knife was found in the driver's side floorboard of his car.............OK Here's what happened: Jacob is struggling with an officer, then, all of a sudden, the officers jump back and pull out their guns because Jacob pulled out a knife. At 0:13 one of the officers says, "he's got a knife, he's got a knife". Then Jacob's baby momma says, "put it down". At 0:18, you can see that he has something in his left hand as he walks in front of the car. The guy that recorded the video said that he heard the cops yelling about a knife. With that context, the behavior of everyone in the video makes sense. There were multiple officers on the scene. Jacob was outnumbered.....they could have restrained him but when he pulled out the knife, they all jumped back....even his baby momma jumped back....and from that point forward, Jacob casually walks away as the cops follow closely behind with guns drawn. They are keeping their distance because Jacob is armed with a deadly weapon. They can't let him get back in the car because he might have a gun in there.

I only saw videos in German media, so maybe someone with more information may correct me.

I see a man (Blake) going to his car, followed by a policeman with a gun. I assume that the policemen did not force him to do so, so it looks that he stubbornly goes to his car, open the door, bows down ...

STOP. Think.

That is USA, a country were people can legally have weapons. The police must always reckon with the possibility that someones takes a weapon to shoot at them.

This is not sure, and may even be proved wrong in the future. But this is the impression I got from looking on the video which showed the shooting.

No, this does not put the whole blame on Blake. There is some racism involved (would the policeman have reacted the same way if Blake were white?). And of course, the ease you can acquire a gun in Wisconsin.

Blake is not just a victim of racism, he also is a victim of his right to carry weapon. A right that has claimed more victims in Kenosha.

So the answer to giving someone more rights is to take away their freedoms? I don't think so.

Either way, very stupid to call police when no crime was being committed.

Very stupid to call the police other than when a violent crime is being committed and the people involved can't handle it themselves.

I thought his girl friend called. He was on her property barbecuing. She had asked for him to give her house keys back, and he seems to have refused. Their is a sexual assault allegation made against him by the girl friend, that I think his lawyer or somebody is contesting.

I did not say it was fully ok what he did. But he has no weapon. In another country, he surely would not have been shot.

Many officers don't carry batons any longer because of the Rodney King video from years back. They certainly could have used one here. The tazer failed... nothing left to use but his firearm...

Me too. That is exactly what I thought as well. This just came out though.
