• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just received the book. The autograph is addressed to a Mother Xenia. Anyone have any possible ideas who Mother Xenia might be? Probably not but you never know

I got this on Audible. I fell asleep to it, so a revisit will be necessary.

Jesus is The Word/Logos but when it comes to study. There’s only one book

Correct. Jesus is the Word of God, but when it comes to study there are more than just one book. The Bible is a liturgical book, and it's good to read it.

"Studying" the Bible is a Protestant phenomenon, because Protestants assume the ancient Church had printing presses in the catacombs. Nay. "Studying the Bible" is a modern notion only possible when books can be pressed out in a matter of days instead of handwritten in many months.

The ‘great’ apostle Paul uses the word “father” in an analogical, qualified manner.
In 1 Corinthians 4:15, Paul uses “father” as a metaphor, and he qualifies his use of “father” by adding “in Jesus Christ through the gospel.”
Paul is referring to his gospel ministry among the Corinthians, through which many of the Corinthians were initially exposed to the message of the Cross (Paul being the one who “planted” the gospel in Corinth [1 Cor 3:6].) In Philippians 2:22, Paul is using a simile to describe his ministry with Timothy “in the gospel;” a mentoring relationship is in view.

What Paul does not do in these passages is begin using “father” as a formal religious title.
Notice how Paul introduces himself in his letters. He normally refers to himself as a “servant” (as in Philippians 1:1) or- especially when writing responses to churches in which his authority was being questioned to some degree- he refers to Christ’s calling upon his life, establishing his apostleship. What Paul does not do in his letters is ever refer to himself as “Father Paul.” (A. Lindsey)

Luke 16:19-31, the condemned rich man calls Abraham “father” & Abraham calls him “son”.

( see vs 24, 25)

You're just falling into the Protestant game of comparing study notes to see who wins the debate. What happens is the Protestant then pulls you down to their level.

The Protestant needs to justify their First Principle: What is the Bible?

Yes, CF directly links to scripture.

All she's going to do is copy paste another Protestant commentary.

Spent too much time in the Protestant camp that you're even falling into their debate traps.

I am trying to relate in a way Psalm 27 might appreciate.

Ok, I was all right with your first post ( don’t worry nothing real serious here either) but, my conversion to Orthodoxy was basically Bible oriented. It involved years of discussion with my one uncle who was cradle Orthodox but Protestantized because his father pulled my dad’s family out of the Church when they were young. I love our parish but there was some drama when my grandparents lived in the 1930s & 40s ( like Aftimios Ofesh: Aftimios Ofiesh - Wikipedia
Our original discussion did not specifically involve Orthodoxy but as time progressed, I realized Christianity was right under my nose. My uncle’s basic faith helped me to become Orthodox & he rejoined the Church in his last years.
