  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

'Time for the Ku Klux Klan to night ride again': An Alabama newspaper editor wants to bring back lynching
Goodloe Sutton [called] for mass lynchings and suggested that the Ku Klux Klan should return to “clean out” Washington, drawing strong rebukes from lawmakers and calls for an FBI investigation from the head of the Alabama NAACP.

“Time for the Ku Klux Klan to night ride again,” began a Feb. 14 editorial in the Democrat-Reporter. It went on to claim that Democrats, along with some Republicans, were planning to raise taxes in Alabama. It concluded, “Seems like the Klan would be welcome to raid the gated communities up there.”

I don't understand, as far as I could tell from the article he wasn't targeting blacks, but instead: (from the OP's link:

When the Advertiser’s Melissa Brown asked him whether it was appropriate for a newspaper publisher to suggest that Americans should be lynched, Sutton replied, “It’s not calling for the lynchings of Americans. These are socialist-communists we’re talking about. Do you know what socialism and communism is?”

But why bring the KKK in to target socialist-communists? How does this add up?

The KKK and the Mafia (Sicilian Mob) have a similar origin: A privileged minority (White People in the former Confederate States, nobility in Sicily) tried to defend their status against the new laws about equality of rights issued from the state (the Union resp. the government of the Naples kingdom after it was conquered by Napoleon),

One of the many false claims against MLK, jr by authorities at the time was that he was a communist agitator. Could be that some ideas never die.

Sutton obviously doesn't know that under communism taxes were rather low (the state as owner of nearly everything had other means to get the ressources it needed). So with some simplification rising of taxes can be called the opposite of Communism.

Clearly this sad little man sees the KKK as the only real Americans who can save the country...

Either that, or the Klan is falling on hard times and are hiring themselves out as rentathugs...

Maybe.

I'm still at a loss myself. lol

In the utterly forgettable Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, the plot, such as it is, is kicked off when a little boy writes a letter to Superman asking him to end the nuclear arms race.

Bottom line: People always think their heroes can solve any problem.

I had to look up what MLK means, partly because as a German this acronym was new to me, partly because the idea is so absurd that I did not think in this direction.

But let us check out whether MLK was a communist:
[ ] Did he dream of a world revolution?
[ ] Did he preach hatred among different social groups to light it?
[ ] Did he advocate the use of violence if it served his goals?
[ ] Did he demonize fellows that began to disagree with him?
[ ] Did he want to take all "production sites" from their owners and give them to "the people"?
[ ] Did he base his teaching on Lenin, his predecessors (Marx, Engels, ...), and maybe other communist theoreticians (Stalin, Mao, ...)?

Apply this list to MLK and the KKK, and then look who gets more similarities to communism ...

An African-American woman who was named publisher and editor of the Alabama newspaper that recently urged the Ku Klux Klan to "night ride again" has stepped down, citing what she said was continuous and damaging interference by the paper's owner.

Sutton, she said, sent out an altered version of the February 28 issue to various media outlets that included a prominent story defending his Klan editorial and attacking the Montgomery Advertiser reporter who interviewed him. Dexter said she had to put out a press release calling the issue a falsification created without her authorization.

Dexter, in a separate news release, also accused Sutton of interfering with Thursday's edition of the paper, saying it did not reflect her "views or thoughts." She said she was stepping down and that the paper was being sold.

Craziness.

I'm not crazy am I? It is 2019 and not 1819 right?

-CryptoLutheran
History sometimes goes in circles, maybe "1819" is ahead of us? At least this is what this Dexter wants.

Presumably encouraged by Trump's behavior and success?

Why do you give this guy that much credit?
Sorry to inform both if you, i guess, but americans can be socialists or communists if they want.
Not only that but, do I understand that it is the socialist communists that are up in the gated communities?

You may not be crazy from what I have seen on these forums (and by the colloquial meaning), but that is the problem.

You are logical, and what is going on right now is considered illogical.
