You can watch a timelapse of the Mawson base webcam covering 4 days at the above link. As you can see, it never gets completely dark. Same for Casey base, although the timelapse only covers 2 days.

By contrast, if you look at the timelapse for Macquarie Island Base, which is located North of 67°S, it does get dark for about 5 hours every night.

You can take a trip to Antarctica and confirm the sun is visible 24Hr in Summer. Obviously is is brighter at noon and dimmer at midnight. You wish to interpret Wilkes as saying it was dark at night rather than visibility being obscured by fog when the temperature was cooler.
The sun can also be obstructed by mountains, being as Antarctica is quite mountainous.

He used the word sunset, why use the word sunset if the sun is not setting. Also i was looking through my old world books from 1974, for The Arctic they mention the 24 hour daylight for that area. But there is no mention of this for Antarctica.

An older photo from about year and half to two years ago, where the moon is a little further north west

Did that come as a surprise to you? Antarctica is the 5th largest continent. A land mass of nearly 14 million square kms.

Sixty five years earlier...'In January 1773, Captain James Cook of England made the first crossing of the Antarctic Circle in history and later, in 1775, Cook also completed the first circumnavigation of Antarctica.' Antarctica History | Goway Travel.

Now how on earth do you think that he did that?

And do you have an answer why your dish shaped moon isn't sideways when viewed from the side?

What that Captain Wilkes saw the sun setting, no it did not.

It takes the shape of an oval close to the horizon, something a sphere can not do.

Because the sun is setting (going down), it just doesn't go below the horizon. Right up until they crossed Latutude 67S the sun would have disappeared briefly each night but after crossing that latitude at that time of year, it would still go down but remain visible over the horizon.

It can appear to take the shape of an oval due to atmospheric refraction, an extremely well known phenomenon.

So the sun is a dish as well?

And if the moon is near the horizon then it would appear to be sideways.

And if the moon is in the west and I'm viewing it from Sydney, then it might appear oval at the horizon. But in Perth it will be perfectly round, high in the sky. How can it be two shapes at the same time?

Has anyone heard about the Black Sun ?

Yes

I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood.

A convex disk, yes that is what i believe. The Bible states they are created lights to give light to/on the earth. So there is no need, to shine their light except to the earth.

These flat Earth people are so funny, I have to comment once in a while. Usually, I don't waste my time with these ridiculous people but I sometimes want to tell them how completely backward their point of view is. Have you ever heard of satellites? Yeah, they've been around since the 1960s. I don't like to go back and forth because it's like having a conversation with someone with their head buried in the sand but now and then I just want to tell them how stupid they are to think that a globe that has had all 360 degrees of its surface that is so well documented daily in real-time. I mean you can look at real-time satellite images of the spherical globe from any side or any angle. It makes me worry sometimes like can these people tell time? Can they be trusted to drive a car? Then I start to feel sorry for them like what have they been through that damaged their ability to process reality? Something is definitely wrong with them but it makes me so curious how a human brain can't comprehend a round Earth when you can do a quick Google Earth search and see exactly what position the Earth is in. Of all the idiotic things people think in the world who have absolutely no clue, this has to be the winner. I can't think of an idea that's more idiotic than we live on a flat Earth

But yet this is perfectly believable to you.
I don't want you to tell me what I do or don't believe. If the moon is as you described then looking at it from the west or the east will show the moon in a sideways orientation. That obviously doesn't happen. So what you have described cannot be the case.

How do you explain that?

After checking on another computer, the map, i was not far off from my original posted map example. The straight line from my photographed position to the moon at the time of the photo that was taken. Goes to the state of Oregon in the southern part.

So did the moon look the right way up? Because, according to you, if someone south of you was looking at the same moon it would look like the north pole was in the west.

Flat earth movement doesn’t just deal in subjects relating to a flat earth. The movement was created to discredit other subjects by association. So evidence that the earth is round wont make it go away

I know nothing will convince flat Earth people that the Earth is round. No matter how many facts, pictures, videos, or space stations broadcasting real-time footage of a round Earth, they just won't accept it. It's al a conspiracy organized by Satan. There is no footage, satellite image, or real-time footage of a spacecraft breaking out into orbit that will convince their people that the Earth is round. No charts coordinates, maps or anything can penetrate their minds. I guess that the only thing that may work is a trip into outer space but I think even then they would believe they were being deceived by what they were seeing with their own eyes up in orbit. I usually don't engage much in these flat Earth threads but sometimes I just can't stop myself from telling them how ridiculous they sound.
