And have you [completely] forgotten the divine word of appeal and encouragement
in which you are reasoned with and addressed as sons? My son, do not think
lightly or scorn to submit to the correction and discipline of the Lord, nor
lose courage and give up and faint when you are reproved or corrected
by Him;
For the Lord corrects and disciplines everyone whom He loves, and He
punishes, even scourges, every son whom He accepts and welcomes to
His heart and cherishes. (Hebrews 12:5-6)
We too soon forget?
God LOVED all the angels he created. He treated them like sons that they were. Lucifer was also a "son of God," just as all the angels of God were "sons of God."
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present
themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. (Job 1:6)
God, treating Lucifer as a son, wanted Lucifer to repent after he began to go down the wrong path in his thinking towards God. God wanted Lucifer to change his arrogant way of thinking (repent) towards God and himself.
God, treated Lucifer was a son. He punished (caused great pain) to Lucifer as a means to snap Lucifer out of his self delusional dream-world. To show Lucifer that he was not as great as he thought he was. It was a designed humiliation to humble Lucifer. It was to show Lucifer that God was ultimately in control, not Lucifer. God was treating Lucifer like a son. A son who had done wrong. The Lord was punishing him in a desire to get Lucifer to repent, and to fully come back to God.
God caused Lucifer to suffer as a means to snap him out of his delusional thinking about his feelings of self importance.. to bring him back to reality. Just as when we suffer, we turn closer to God. Especially, if we realize we had wandered away from Him.
What did Lucifer do when he was being punished by God? Did he repent and return to God, as God desired? No... He stubbornly refused to. Not only refused.
He CURSED the Lord to his face for his suffering!
Satan in delusion and denial, then claimed that he was JUSTIFIED in doing so. And, added to that, that any angel who suffered like he was made to? He too would have done the same thing! That anyone would curse God to His face, if God caused him to suffer that way.
Angels were watching all this take place between the Lord and their beloved Lucifer. Lucifer was greatly loved amongst the angels. They wondered if Satan were not telling the truth. That anyone made to suffer by God, as Lucifer had? That, they too, would have also CURSED the Lord to His face as well. It caused confusion in their minds and was a conflict that needed to be resolved.
There was great confusion in the camp of angels. There was now a conflict in their thinking about God. It needed to be resolved by God. For, no one could know in their limited understanding with certainty if Satan were lying, or actually telling the truth. This sort of thing was new to them. For, that had just come out of a world that had been perfect. That prior to that time? The thought of the concept of wrongdoing and punishment was unheard of. It was something they still needed to learn about. It was foreign to them.
Their perfect world ended when Satan and his angels decided they were capable of taking things into their own hands. They decided that they did not need God any longer. That they can be as God. The Lord God did not allow for that to stand.. PUNISHMENT began to bring them down to humility, with the desire for an outcome of repentance on their part.
God had a plan to resolve this conflict in thinking with the angels. He needed a means to show and teach all the angels that God was being just and fair in his treatment of Lucifer's wrongdoing.
The solution..
Then the Lord said to Satan, Have you considered My servant Job?
No one else on earth is like him, a man of perfect integrity,
who fears God and turns away from evil. (Job 1:8)
Job: When it was all over? What did Satan have left in his defense? No more excuses! For, Satan had suffered from the hand of God because of actual wrongdoing. If he truly had remained faithful and loved God? Lucifer would have admitted his wrongdoing and repented.
Instead? Lucifer turned on God, and claimed justification for his hatred towards God. His justification? It was because of the punishment and pain he received.
But? As far as Job? He did not warrant any punishment! His was undeserved suffering!
UNDESERVED! Job received horrendous suffering and pain that should have been associated with punishment for doing something terribly wrong!
In spite of that. Job, clinging to the true nature of God, refused to curse God to his face. Even under the crushing weight of horrible suffering that he did not deserve.
All the angels were watching and learning while that took place! That left Satan with what? What excuse now? He no longer could cling tenaciously to his old lie that excused him in self justifying his rejection of God! For, it was Job who proved him to be a liar. Not everyone who suffered like Lucifer was made to suffer, would have to curse God to His face!
Chances are, Job suffered by the hands of Satan, worse than Lucifer ever did from the hand of God.
To make matters worse for Satan, Job knew that his suffering was not because of any wrongdoing of his own. Then how much of an excuse was Satan left with who did deserved to be punished?
Before God and the angels, Satan was once more proven to be a self-absorbed - delusional liar. A liar against reality. Against God.
God had honored Job by choosing him as God's evidence to be presented in Satan's appeal trial. God knew that Job's love for Him was true. Job was given the honor of being used by God to reveal the truth of Who and What God really is.
After Job refused to curse God? And, only spoke well of God in spite of being wrongfully treated? Satan had to sliver out of the court room like a snake in the grass... knowing he was proven to be not justified in his prior excuse. Job's suffering, and love for God, just put Satan in a hole. One he is destined to be buried in.
Throughout history God will repeat at times this kind of undeserved suffering when he chooses, and only by means of the mature believer who's love for God is unshakable and beyond reproach.
All along history angels have watched mankind, and learned by the examples presented by mature believers, that Satan is really weak, though possessing great power. WEAK. Even though, he was given great powers by God. Just like certain politicians we see in power today. Having great power and loving themselves. Yet, weak and impotent to do any true good. For, without God's grace being with a person? We can do nothing that is truly good. Power alone is not the answer. Having God's power working in us is the only answer. That power is called "grace." Its both gentle and able to move mountains.
Grace and peace to Brinny!
