  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Christ died for us all. Every sinner. While we were STILL SINNING. Everyone matters to God despite how wicked and cruel they may be.

Psa_11:6 Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

Nobody wants to answer the question...
Are ALL people made in the image and likeness of their Creator?
Were they made so? yes, is that enough? no
Whether a person becomes a "child of God", regardless of their birthright, is completely dependent on their behavior while on this Earth.

Christ called many the "sons of Satan".

So, Moses is of no more value to mankind than a crackhead?

In the finite world we now inhabit, one person is of more value than another. Einstein contributed more than I ever will. But God sees all. God does not see the mere life we live until we die in this world. God sees all the work we will be doing for him throughout eternity. When God takes these into account, the life of the meanest crook who died right after turning to Christ as his Savior is of far more worth than we can see in our mere mortal vision. One could even say, since we believe our lives to go on forever in heaven, it is of infinite worth, and comparing infinities of that kind one against another is mathematically nonsense.

So, if you don't love people based on "their worth to mankind", why were you suggesting that a "crackhead" has less value than Moses, Mother Teresa or Princess Diana?

My love for people is based on their need, not their worth. In the same way, God loves mankind. There is nothing in us that makes us of any worth to Him. We are insurrectionists - enemies of God.

But they ARE of equal worth to God. And as Christians, are we called to see people as God sees them, or as society sees them?

The OP is regarding man's value to mankind, not God. Mankind (in his sinful state) has no intrinsic value to God.

There is no one righteous, not even one;

there is no one who understands;

there is no one who seeks God.

All have turned away,

they have together become worthless;

there is no one who does good,

not even one.”

“Their throats are open graves;

their tongues practice deceit.”

“The poison of vipers is on their lips.”

“Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”

“Their feet are swift to shed blood;

ruin and misery mark their ways,

and the way of peace they do not know.”f

“There is no fear of God before their eyes.”g

Did Isaac Newton matter more than Hitler? Could we not attribute more value to mankind to Newton than Hitler?

Did William Shakespeare matter more than Justin Bieber ever will? Socrates more than Snoop Dog? Abraham Lincoln more than Al Sharpton?

Is it true that some lives matter more than others? Would you trade the life Jonas Salk (cured polio) for that of Kim Kardashian?

How about serial killers like Ted Bundy? Does your life matter more than his?

Do Some Lives Matter More Than Others?
The Old Testament gives the impression that some people are more important than others.

There is only one life that matter infinitely more important than all others: His name is Jesus Christ.

No human life is better than any other. Apart from the grace of God in Jesus Christ, we are all depraved sinful people.

Since this is a Christians only topic, I'll introduce some scripture:

...in humility consider others better than yourselves.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends

Absolutely. But do I think their lives were more valuable than that of a "crackhead"?

Absolutely not.

And if you know anything about Mother Teresa or Princess Diana, you know that they didn't think their lives were more valuable than anyone else's either.
Pretty sure Diana did, but lets not open that can of worms.

If she did, she was wrong to think so. (But I'm not about to claim she truly did think that without conclusive evidence that she did)

And as this thread is not about what Princess Diana did or did not think about certain people, that will need to be discussed elsewhere.

Hence "but lets not open that can of worms."

And yet, you felt that it was important enough to bring up even the suggestion.

Interesting.

I believe it was you who first asserted in this thread an opinion of what Princess Diana thought about other people.

Actually, it was not me who brought up Princess Diana at all.

Perhaps you need to go back and read the entire conversation.

As I said, it was you who asserted an opinion about what Princess Diana thought (nobody else had done that earlier).

Then you rejected someone else's opinion about what Princess Diana thought.

Actually, my response about Princess Diana was specifically because it was suggested that her life was worth more than a drug addict's life.

And I didn't "reject" someone else's opinion of her, I said I wasn't going to make a claim about her beliefs and perspectives without conclusive evidence.

Apparently, Rihanna was in Nice, France yesterday but she is safe.
Media makes it important to tell us that even tho we aint even know she was there
initially, so yes, Rihannas life matters more than the French victims

I do not see how this text supports the assertion that man has "no intrinsic value to God". All it does is establish that we humans do a lot of bad stuff. But so do a lot of people in our lives and we still value them.

My bible says that humans are made in the image of God. Obviously, since we all don't look alike, there must be a common factor. I believe that factor is the soul. Since everyone has a soul, then we are all valuable to God and to each other.

Some people choose the wrong path (whatever that is) but it is up to God to separate "the sheep" from "the goats" at the day of judgement. Each must answer to God for the "works" they have done. As much as possible, we are told to love our neighbor.
