  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

  1. The Liturgist

Liturgical Reform and Alienation, and Other Interesting Things

Your post made me reflect on the interesting fact that in the history of the Christian church, in the past four centuries, the forcible implementation of a new liturgy substantially, or in some cases, only slightly, different from the old one, has produced some fairly spectacular schisms. The...

    Christmas Tree Lights

In the Time of Christ, there was no electricity. There were no hardware stores where you could go and purchase lumber. So, when it was time to perform a crucifixion upon an adjudicated "criminal", you needed wood. So, they took small trees, stripped them of limbs, bound them together carefully...

    Peace with God

    - How do you have peace with God? Where is it found? Well, the answer is simple, but the application can be hindered and even blocked by you. By the way you think.... See, the way you think defines what you believe, and why. If this is wrong... if your thinking is wrong, then your faith is...

    Catholic Eschatology

Though not a Catholic, as an Anglican I consider myself in continuity with the Catholic community, via apostolic succession and shared creeds and history. I am hoping this is the right place to ask my questions and get Catholic answers. Is there a distinctive Catholic Eschatology and how can...

    Sanhedrin And The Catholic Magisterium

Hello I watched this video recently and I wanted to get the opinions of Roman Catholics. This video focusses on the remarkable similarities between the claims made by religious Jewish leaders at the time of Christ and the Roman Catholic church. There is a sense in which history is repeating...

What in theology prevent Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox from being simply "Christians"?

I've been growing up in Northern Europe, so as I was faced with conversion from Buddhism into Christianity I eventually met other Christians that told me of Christianity in a distinct Protestant flavor, but I didn't ever feel I was met with a God that first demanded of me to choose between one...

    Be Not Afraid--sung over webconference

This never would have happened without Covid, and I think it's a remarkable project. Such a wonderful hymn, and the first two names in this video are people I recognize from their songs in the church hymnal, but I've never seen their face!

    Byzantine Catholicism

Hello, all! I considered putting this in "Denomination Specific Theology", but I would like to be open to non-Christian input as well. Since I'm not trying to make any particular point, just sharing something I like, this seemed like the proper location for this thread. I went to a Byzantine...

    The Big Question

    Denominations

I'm a Buddhist, but I'm curiously drawn to reading the Bible and feel a certain comfort in reading and holding it. In Buddhism we do have different schools and styles, but for the most part, we respect each others denominations and see them all as valid. I find Christians seem to have much...
