Gavin Newsom put distance between himself and his party, and found common ground with influential conservative activist and commentator Charlie Kirk when the term-limited California governor and possible 2028 presidential contender agreed that biological men in women's sports is "deeply unfair."

I’m a bit more pessimistic. Seems more about overhauling his image.
Eh? He’s the governor of California. You definitely aren’t wrong!

It’s all about the career/bottom line in the end when it comes to politicians and business. They go where they think the profit is and will change to suit.

Yup. They want votes so they can stay in office, me thinks.

He's prepping for a run in 2028. One of the few constants of American politics is that a major loss usually results in the losing party going more to the right.
Imagine California becoming Republican? That would be a day when pigs fly!

Who said anything about becoming Republican? Newsome is just going to the right of the rest of the Democratic party. The Republican party is so far right now there is plenty of room to do that and still be to the left of them.

Ok. You mean less radical? Do I understand you correctly?

No. Mostly because I don't think there is anything "radical" about the current mainstream of the Democratic party.
Ok. I respect your opinion.

Take care

From what I've seen, the left's position on (biological) men in women's sports generally falls under these categories:

1) Biological men should be allowed to compete in women's sports.
2) Biological men competing in women's sports is unfair, but it shouldn't be regulated by the federal government. It should be regulated by the sports associations involved.
3) Biological men competing in women's sports is so rare, that it isn't really a problem.

A lot of Democrats will admit that it is unfair, but that doesn't mean they will support legislature to do anything about it. We saw this in the Senate recently, when every single Democrat voted against a bill that banned biological men from competing in women's sports. Newsome's comments are a way to broaden his own popularity, but I doubt that he would support any bill that addresses the issue.
