Yeah, stick with that. It’s not close to what he said, but if that’s the creative interpretation, then okay.
Now I am not 100% positive on this but I would assume that shipping ports already and have always been working 24/7. Is anyone else bothered about the fact that Biden seems to keep blaming the American people for all his problems?

See Post #45. Long Beach Terminals were only operating 90 hrs a week. Other terminals are also less than 24 hours.
Will Biden's 24/7 Port Plan Alleviate Supply Chain Problems? - Fleet Management - Trucking Info

If you read the article you'll see that there are a number of problems within the trucking industry, including trucks tied up with empty containers, which are contributing to overall inefficiency. These problems have nothing to do with Biden.

Well; everybody he is speaking to; are not all truck drivers.

When I started driving long distances to relatives in other states; I was surprised how little traffic there was on the interstate highways; after midnight. So for long hauling the family around; we would leave after dark; and make much better time then day-time driving.
It’s still not news. It’s not doing anything different. So it’s not some new revelation or revolution.

You realise that trucks will have to be fitted with headlights........
They have already started, probably in anticipation of this very problem.

...and yet you took the time to start a thread on some side-bar remark made by Biden. I agree, that point is not news.

It's not even a side-bar remark. It's a misunderstanding of a side-bar remark.

The thread is about how an incompetent president thinks problems are solved.

It’s not a straw man. And it is a lot more complicated than just working more hours. The State of California has put restrictions on what trucks can operate in the state. Most trucks that run out of ports are O/O with older trucks, which are being banned in the state. And the large carriers don’t do containers in general (though some have container divisions). So it’s not like trucks only run in the daytime and would go in if Biden would only let them pick up and drive at night.

See, you could have started a thread along those lines...."Biden's announcement will do little to resolve the supply chain issues" -- but you chose not to.....

I do have a little knowledge about this since I’m in the industry. And this was a silly statement because the Port of Los Angeles doesn’t have banker’s hours.

The Port may not have bankers hours but it's now opening an additional 60 hours a week. The quote below comes from Trucking Info - an industry magazine. As you can see from the quote, Biden is saying that off peak opening (i.e., nights) allows cargo to leave the port at a 25% faster pace.

Biden: 24/7 Operations to Help Supply Chain - Fleet Management - Trucking Info

Noting that 24/7 operations are standard at large ports in most other large countries, Biden explained that traditionally, the ports are only open weekdays, and not overnight. Staying open 7 days a week, through nights and weekends, will open up another 60 extra hours a week – nearly double the number of hours the port is open for business. That means more hours for workers to move containers off ships and onto trains and trucks. And opening up those off-peak hours, he said, will also help speed operations. During off peak hours, he said, cargo leaves port at a 25% faster pace than during the day shift.

...excerpt of Biden's October 13 remarks:

...
"Twenty-four/seven system — what most of the leading countries in the world already operate on now, except us, until now.

This is the first key step toward moving our entire freight transportation and logistical supply chain, nationwide, to a 24/7 system.

And here’s why it matters: Traditionally, our ports have only been open during the week — Monday through Friday — and they’re generally closed down at nights and on weekends. By staying open seven days a week, through the night and on the weekends, the Port of Los Angeles will open — over 60 extra hours a week it will be open. In total, that will almost double the number of hours that the port is open for business from earlier this year.

That means an increase in the hours for workers to be moving cargo off ships and onto trucks and railcars to get to their destination.

And more than that, the night hours are critical for increasing the movement of goods because highways — highways are less crowded in the evening — at night.

In fact, during off-peak hours in Los Angeles, cargo leaves the port at a 25 percent faster pace than during the day shift.

So, by increasing the number of late-night hours of operation and opening up for less-crowded hours when the goods can move faster, today’s announcement has the potential to be a gamechanger."

It is a straw man. Over the course of multiple posts, you implied that he was talking about highways in general and driving at night in general. In post 21, for example, you said, "We’ve been hauling freight at night forever. In fact, I’m in a dock right now at 10 PM."

His comments had nothing to do with highways and general truck traffic across the country. He was specifically talking about congestion around the Port of Los Angeles and how the decreased congestion at night helps things get out of the port more quickly. You misunderstood what he said and then started a thread criticizing that misunderstanding. That's a textbook strawman fallacy.

If he had said ports are less crowded, maybe you’d have a point.

^^That^^ is referring to the way traffic congestion around the port impacts efficiency of the port.

And we are all still shocked that traffic is lighter at night. Thankfully we have the brilliance of President Biden to straighten us out.

Yeeeesh. You're acting as though he presented this as if he thinks it's some brilliant idea that nobody else thought of. It was just a simple comment on getting the port operating 24/7 and the ways it will improve the flow of goods. He is literally just saying "Not only will there be more time to move goods in and out of the port, we'll move more goods per hour in those new hours because traffic around the port is lighter."

That's all very good things for getting the port back on track. I don't understand why Biden explaining some basic thing is such a big deal.
