It will help. Since cargo is being offloaded 24/7, more cargo will be available for trucking out of port at night when the highways are less crowded. Biden isn't talking about night driving per se - he's talking about cargo becoming available for night driving due to the extended offloading hours.

I watched the press briefing and Biden said a port would become open at night which means trucks could come and pick up the freight at night, he was not announcing that it is silly no truck drives at night and they should start driving at night.

problem is that some items companies need are not made in USA anywhere anymore

this is the problem for company where husband works
there was one company in US that made item they needed & company went out of business

they have no choice but to get item from China

When I started driving long distances to relatives in other states; I was surprised how little traffic there was on the interstate highways; after midnight. So for long hauling the family around; we would leave after dark; and make much better time then day-time driving.

I was a night shift worker for many years; so staying awake at night; was no problem. Just the opposite; I had trouble staying awake during the day; driving in the heat and bright sunshine of the western USA.

Yeah, I'm not getting what the big deal is here. He was talking about a port starting to operate 24/7 that would help clear the shipping backlog, and that what will help it clear even more is that by operating at night they'll be able to move more trucks because the roads will be less busy. Now, that part I'm not so sure about because sure, there's additional capacity on the roads to move more trucks, but are the trucks going to be available?

I don't get any impression he was trying to announce some brilliant idea or anything.
